Spider-Man: Brand New Day Spoiler Discussion & Poll: How Would You Rate The Latest MCU Movie?

Marvel Studios Spider-Man: Brand New Day movie is my All-Time favorite Comic Book Superhero movie.

Mid..and the hand beign security guards will never not be funny

Definitely a 4/5. Giving Scorpion more background or action and even a Daily Bugle segment would've been good.

Movie is definitely making 2billion

having jean openly kill an innocent old man and not face any of the consequences for her actions is not a good introduction to the character.

How many cbms that weren't Spider-Man, Batman, or a Marvel team-up made profit since 2019? Nobody gives a [frick] about anybody else lol

A solid film, I give it 8.5/10 great performances by everyone but just a few gripes.

Wasn’t the biggest fan of Jean being that villainous throughout the movie but I get it though; need to given the citizens a reason to hate mutants.

Would’ve liked to see more of the montage villains have more of an appearance in the film.

It felt more like a four-issue comic book arc than any other Marvel movie, in a good way.

The film felt really disjointed and didn't really flesh out a majority of its characters or ideas. It felt like multiple contradicting movies crammed together and contradicting each other:

• A solo Spider-man/Isolated Peter Parker story-line
• A buddy cop style film where Peter is trying to discover the truth to a mystery and having no other options is paired with a Cop and Punisher and getting advice from Yelena
• An Iron-Boy Junior story where Peter just solves his problems with AI, has a magical fabricator that fixes his suit and buys flowers constantly despite not having any form of job or income shown
• A body horror symbiote syle film where Peter is mutating causing him immense pain and resulting in his powers going wild and it's causing him to hurt those around him including his loved ones and almost kills civilians or villains
• A paranoia inducing breakdown of Peter Parker as a mass murdering new antagonist who can be anyone lurks in the shadows
• A Jean Grey origin movie including the creation of the mutant inhibitors and trying to portray her as sympathetic

Each has aspects that result in some interesting concepts, moments or visuals but nothing really works when put together and nothing feels finished.

Characters:
• Peter feels like a contradiction, is he choosing to be isolated or does he have a lot of connections that he has had off-screen missions with or talks to all the time.
• MJ is complicated, it's weird that she memorized Peter's face and remembers one time in a Donut shop from 4+ years ago enough for those instances and a short interaction at a party to be enough to draw his face 1-to-1 likeness. They repeat the Gamora GotG3 plotline of the lack of experiences/memories resulting in her being a different person.
• Ned is just kinda around, he's not really existing to do anything other than some exposition and jokes that doesn't really add anything to the movie.
• Sarah & Jean Grey are not likable in this film. Sadie Sink is a great actress, but her character is repulsive on a rampage to try and find V-Max to find her sister.
• Metzger is empty as an antagonist, it's unclear why he is doing what he does beyond wanting to experiment on people to replicate their abilities for some vague notion of giving that gift to the world.
• Scorpion sucks, which is a shame, but he's got nothing going on here. He swore vengeance against Spider-man in Homecoming and he's treated as a gag villain. He gets a really dumb line trying to sound intimidating by stating 'Scorpions are nocturnal' and everything else he's mind controlled for... what a complete waste.
• Yelena as the creepy pervert who gets people to strip for conversations feels like a Hollywood hazing ritual, it was cringe hearing people refer to her as Black Widow, she existed solely for exposition.

Plot:
You could easily cut Yelena, the female Cop, the Scorpion scenes, the entire V-Max plot-line, perhaps even the entire movie, because Jean knows her sister was taken by the DodC so all she needs to do is get to Metzger and invade his mind and the movie ends as she'd know what happened to her sister. She can just body hop into anyone who works at the DodC, a publicly accessible building whose security she could easily bypass with her body hopping and then body hop into Metzger. The plot is needlessly stretched and convoluted for a mystery that doesn't work.

A lot of it is never resolved such as the reasoning for Spider-man's powers, is he an X-Men style mutant? is it part of his lifestyle as a Spider? Are the mutations done now that he accepted them? It felt like there was a resolution that was cut from the movie regarding the mutations, with Punisher at the boat house location I would not be surprised if there was a Man-Spider transformation was cut from the film. Regardless, it's unfinished and I doubt Secret Wars is going to tackle it beyond him having the organic webbing.

It's very unclear if anything in this film is going to matter going forward, with Secret Wars possibly acting as some form of reset.

Choreography:
For the action was good but you really start to notice during the Hand fight that a few are waiting for their queue, hit Spider-man with their hand instead of the sword or how his costume has zero damage from that fight. It doesn't make it feel like a real fight if his suit remains without damage. Scorpion blocking bullets with his tail was just stupid and he should have had his mask. Spider-man throwing Scorpion under the wheel of a Police car which subsequently flips over with the full weight of the car on Scorpion's head should have killed him and it's stupid that he sustained less damage in that fight scene than the Cop in that car.

Felt like reading a John Romita comicbook, with elements from modern Spider-Man PS5 games and great guest appearances, just like in the comics. MJ might remember him (but it's left ambiguous, after all she does have a life) Ned is essential to MCU Peter so I'm ultra glad they brought back that relationship. That being said, I hated Scorpion's role in this, and the fact that a lot of people were made of rubber or something, like that guy that got ran over? Jeez. I liked the whole Evolution of Peter and how it was handled, it felt like they fired Bruce Banner out of the movie at one point lmfao. I LOVED JEAN GREY and her story, mutants after all, have always gone through a lot of personal problems. I like that Spider-Man has served as a vehicle to explore the MCU's next phase, Far From Home introduced the idea that maybe Multiversal travel was happening. And now, Brand New Day shows us the start of the Mutant/Human conflict, Peter unknowingly has left behind a universal inhibitor of his own making... the X-Men will have complex backstories and treated like an ensamble in their movies it seems, with Damage Control as their first big bad. Punisher was AWESOME, the dynamic with Spider-Man was AMAZING, this movie is gonna cross a billion in 2 weeks most likely. Spider-Man is in peak form in the MCU at this point.
