Avengers: Endgame was re-released in theaters this weekend, having originally opened way back in 2019. With additional scenes meant to set up this December's Avengers: Doomsday, the Encore—a marketing gimmick, for all intents and purposes—has been a rousing success for Marvel Studios.
Now, Sony Pictures wants in on the action. Deadline has confirmed that Spider-Man: Brand New Day is getting a re-release with extra footage that "includes, but is not limited to, Rosario Dawson's character Claire Temple."
She was cut from the version of the movie that opened in July, much to the disappointment of both fans and Dawson herself. The Daredevil star will finally get her due, though there's currently no word on what other additional content will be included.
However, the trade adds that "there will be more surprises as well in the extra footage," suggesting Sony believes it has enough on hand to convince fans it will be worth returning to theaters to watch Spider-Man: Brand New Day again.
The movie is already the highest-grossing ever at the domestic box office, and the third-biggest blockbuster of all time worldwide. There's no word on when the $2.495 billion mega-hit will return to the big screen, though "logic dictates that Sony would have some sort of access to premium large format screens during a quiet time at the box office."
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is still making money in theaters, so it seems doubtful that this re-release will drop before Avengers: Doomsday. Still, there's always a chance it does, with a post-credits scene teasing plans for Spider-Man, or Spider-Men, in that movie. For now, we'll have to wait and see.
What does this mean for a Digital and 4K Blu-ray release? Those dates still haven't been announced, though October 6 and November 17 have both been mentioned on multiple occasions by reliable outlets.
