2026's Marvel And DC Movies Ranked From Least To Most Anticipated

Four major Marvel and DC movies are being released in theaters this year, and we're now ranking Supergirl, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Clayface, and Avengers: Doomsday from least to most anticipated.

With Marvel Studios eager to get back to quality over quantity and DC Studios out to establish the new DCU, 2026 promises to be another big year for superhero movies (especially as the battle with so-called superhero fatigue continues).

Marvel Studios is going big with Sony Pictures' co-production, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and Avengers: Doomsday, the first half of the Multiverse Saga's finale (with Avengers: Secret Wars following in 2027).

On the DC side, James Gunn and Peter Safran are bringing two smaller budgeted feature to theaters in Supergirl and Clayface.

Each studio is taking a big swing, and all four movies are exciting for different reasons. Now, though, it's time to rank them from least to most anticipated. We're sure you'll have opinions on how these compare, so feel free to share your rankings down in the comments section...

4. Clayface

Wpr7i5h8 o

It may seem harsh, but Clayface is hard to really care about. Eden Lake director James Watkins being at the helm has us intrigued, as does an R-rating and the promise of body horror. However, of all the stories DC Studios could and should be telling, they choose...this?

The DCU's Batman still hasn't been cast, and we don't anticipate him making a surprise appearance here. Clayface doesn't need the Dark Knight to be a compelling story, or to succeed at the box office, but we've yet to be given a reason to care about the origin story of a C-list Batman villain.

Sure, the transformation of a handsome actor into a shapeshifting monster is definitely something new for superhero movies at a time when the genre is struggling, but Clayface isn't what we were originally promised. It was supposed to be Mike Flanagan's passion project; instead, he wrote the first draft, and DC Studios has since rushed it out because it needed a second movie in 2026 to fill the void left by Sgt. Rock.

3. Supergirl

92wshmvw o

The first Supergirl trailer was good, but it also made it abundantly clear that this movie isn't the adaptation of Tom King and Bilquis Evely's Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow that we were hoping for. Yes, the key ingredients are there, but it's missing one too many of them to make this the one-of-a-kind follow-up to Superman we'd imagined.

The comic's bright colour palette has vanished; in its place are what look like a few grungy, leftover sets from Guardians of the Galaxy. Even Krem of the Yellow Hills has the appearance of a Ravager wannabe, but don't fret, because we're not entirely writing this one off.

While it may not be the most exciting movie from a visual standpoint, we are excited to see what Milly Alcock and Jason Momoa bring to the table as Supergirl and Lobo, respectively. We also have a feeling that the story will be strong, and after Craig Gillespie wowed us with Cruella, fingers crossed he finds a way to bring similar flair to this one.

2. Avengers: Doomsday

4nr4vvbz o

The three Avengers: Doomsday teasers we've seen have definitely increased our excitement levels. While it's hard not to be sceptical about Robert Downey Jr. taking on the role of Doctor Doom—not to mention what may be an overreliance on nostalgia—it does feel like the Russo Brothers are cooking with this one.

Steve Rogers' return, a serious Thor, and a comic-accurate X-Men aside, Avengers: Doomsday boasts an impressive cast, and promises to give comic book fans the types of team-ups they could only once fantasise about seeing on screen.

How the pivot from Kang the Conqueror to Victor Von Doom will work is another big mystery. Still, it feels like the Russos are the right choice to help get the MCU back on the right track as the Multiverse Saga winds down. The long pre and post-production period also leaves us feeling confident that the right amount of time is being taken to perfect this story.

1. Spider-Man: Brand New Day

Pzsq7gav o

It's been far too long since we've seen Peter Parker on our screens, but something tells us that Spider-Man: Brand New Day will have been worth the wait. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton takes over from Jon Watts for a movie that promises to finally give fans a street-level Spider-Man in the MCU.

That means Spidey will cross paths with characters like The Punisher, Scorpion, Tombstone, Boomerang, and even The Hand. And lest we forget that this is a Marvel Studios movie, The Hulk is being thrown in for good measure!

Spider-Man: No Way Home ended on a major cliffhanger when the world forgot who Peter is, and how that's dealt with only makes this movie even more fascinating. Throw in the mystery surrounding Sadie Sink's character, how this tale ties into the wider MCU, and all those Symbiote rumours, and we're counting down the days...

@Baf - I literally can't wait for Clayface. I love me some comicbook characters and I definitely love me some horror movies.

People are underestimating how good this flick could be. Could be refreshing after the blockbusters of Spiderman and Supergirl.

The kid is definitely a self-entitled brat. Needs to be knocked down a few in the real world.

Just going to keep it real.. Clayface is not even a blip on my interest radar. I understand it has some good creative on duty putting it together, and that’s great and all, but Clayface will be a MAX movie night for me.

@TheExile117 - To me, Clayface is the only entry doing something different with the genre.

@Baf - We haven’t gotten a teaser yet, but from the sound of things it probably will be considering the creative behind it. But personally I’m not interested in a Batmanless Batman movie. Same energy I had (have) with SONY and their Spider-Manless Spider-Man films. Clayface just isn’t a character I care enough about to spend theater prices for, on top of also having to put up with the other nonsense we have to deal with at theaters today. I’ll put up with prices and shenanigans for Batman, STAR WARS, Avengers, Superman etc.. but Clayface as a character is steamer level. Gonna order out and make a movie night of it.

Baf - 1/5/2026, 3:24 PM
@TheExile117 - I can see your point. Let me clarify. Although Clayface is my most anticipated, it is probably the least likely to see in a theater. For that I go: (Depending on trailers)
1) Supergirl
2) Spider Man
3) Avengers
4) Clayface

@Baf -

Thats fair, but for the majority the list would likely be doomsday number 1, and Spider-Man number 2. But if you are personally more excited for clayface, and have it as number 1. Then more power to you, I'm going to see each and everyone.

@TheExile117 - did you care about Penguin? Did you enjoy the series and actually expect to?

Clayface's story is fascinating as is Mr. Freeze, Red Hood, Hush, JOKER and so-on.
Only rogues galary that could sustain individual films.

The whole "Batman story without Batman" is been going around forever and is tired. Batman's rogues can be great stories and could set up how the world of Gotham looks/operates as a precursor to the impending Brave and Bold.

@PopBye - Like I said, Doomsday and Spiderman, and Supergirl for that matter, are definitely bigger spectacles, but I doubt there is anything in any of those films that I haven't seen before. Clayface has a chance to be different.

TheExile117 - 1/5/2026, 4:10 PM
@lazlodaytona - Well first of all please re-read my comments. I never said I wasn’t going to watch it, so I won’t be missing out on anything. And I already acknowledged that it might be the most interesting cbm we get this year based on the creative behind it. However, as these things go it mainly comes down to writing and execution. So just because it’s a Batman rogue or character doesn’t make it an auto-win to pre-order tix now. And just because YOU may find Matt Hagen/Clayface (assuming this is Hagen) just as interesting as some of the other Batman rogues, your feelings are not a one size fits all for everyone else. Clayface isn’t as high on my personal rankings of Batman’s rogues for reasons that are my own. All things considered right now, I’ll be there for actual Batman movies at the theaters where Bruce is front and center or has a supporting role. His supporting characters I’ll leave to catch them on streaming. That works for me.

@Baf - absolutely dude.
Clayface would be a film I'd love to see in the afternoon in a 20-seat theater with only me, or two other weirdos like me spread out across the seats.

I’m always MCU leaning so I anticipate those a little more than dc, but I can’t wait to watch them all. Even if last year wasn’t a slam dunk box office wise, I still believe we got 3 really good movies and 1 decent/good one. I hope we keep that up

@JoshWilding

I agree 100% with you.

Clayface lost a lot of appeal when Mike Flanagan left.

Supergirl looks trashy and not as likeable as i would like to see her.

Avengers: Doomsday has much going against it, but the comic-acurate X-Men make it a must-see, even if the Avengers don't excite me anymore.

Spider-Man and Punisher in one movie is enough for me to watch this 3 times at least.

Maybe Avengers ??

Congratulations to Marvel, they made a piece of mud more interesting than the whole of their cinematic universe in a matter of 5 years or so.

@OrgasmicPotatoe - yeah, these Avengers movies are their hail-marry's since this last phase has failed.
Problem is, even after they make bank due to including almost every character from the MCU/Sony/Fox universe, where do they go from there?
Individual stories are out because they depend heavily on multi-character films now, plus lots of villains. Just look at the new Spiderman "solo" film: how many notable MCU characters are in it?
