Chris Columbus, director of two Harry Potter films, will helm and produce the Sub-Mariner movie for Universal Pictures, according to Variety.

Road to Perdition scripter David Self wrote the script and will executive produce.

One of Marvel's oldest superhero characters, the Sub-Mariner in Prince Namor of Atlantis who frequently wars with the surface world over its polluting ways but also frequently comes to the aid of the defenseless.

[Harry Potter, meanwhile, is a weak imitation of Tim Hunter from DC Vertigo's Books of Magic series, which pre-date J.K. Rowling's books.]
