VisionQuest had its premiere at the London Film Festival earlier today, and a major cameo has seemingly been spoiled in the process. This won't come as a huge surprise to many of you, and if anything, it will likely only increase excitement for the show.
As you can see in the X posts below, Joe Locke joined the rest of the VisionQuest cast to promote the Disney+ series. He played Billy Maximoff/Wiccan in 2014's Agatha All Along, and is obviously Tommy's brother and the son of Vision and the Scarlet Witch.
While the main focus of VisionQuest will be on Vision and Tommy's father/son dynamic, it makes sense for Billy to show up, especially if the series sets the stage for the twins to assemble alongside the rest of the Young Avengers in Avengers: Doomsday and/or Avengers: Secret Wars.
Of course, the series will explore another father and son relationship: Ultron and Vision.
Talking to TV Guide about exploring that with Paul Bettany and James Spader, VisionQuest showrunner Terry Matalas said, "The three of us were in such lockstep about what the tone of this was that we were going to bounce between real drama, real emotion, philosophy, and then broad humor at times, and that hopefully that would [carry] a lot of action and excitement."
"Who is [Ultron] now? He's been consuming mankind [media]. Has he come around on us? Has he not?" he continued. "We're riding that line of uncertainty, which is what you want to see James do, and you want to see Paul navigate, and the chemistry between the two of them is just unmatched."
UItron hasn't been seen in the MCU since 2015's Avengers: Age of Ultron, making this return very long overdue for fans of the iconic villain. Will this series set up a future beyond Disney+? We'll have to wait and see.
"Paul Bettany and James Spader are masterful in VisionQuest," we wrote in our review of the series. "[It's] a staggering achievement by Marvel Studios and Terry Matalas that understands its characters, does right by them, and delivers one of the best MCU stories ever told."
You can see Paul Bettany, Ruaridh Mollica, and Joe Locke together below.
In VisionQuest, Vision, rebooted and having escaped from those who sought to weaponise him, has been in hiding. Searching for new meaning, he consults the AI personas embedded in his programming, including F.R.I.D.A.Y., E.D.I.T.H., J.A.R.V.I.S., and the infamous Ultron.
His discreet existence ends when a bounty placed on his head thrusts him on the run with Thomas Shepard, a mysterious boy who may be Vision's son, reincarnated. As Vision evades capture, he must confront his nature, resist Ultron's influence, and unravel the enigma that is his young companion if he’s to survive.
VisionQuest stars Paul Bettany, James Spader, Ruaridh Mollica, Todd Stashwick, T'Nia Miller, Lauren Morais, Orla Brady, Diane Morgan, Polly Frame, Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer, with Emily Hampshire and James D'Arcy.
