BOX OFFICE: STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS Hits The $100 Million Mark In China
Star Wars: The Force Awakens has just passed the $100 million mark at the China box office. Even so, the film has dropped 70 percent in the world's second largest box office, and lost the weekend to Boonie Bears 3. Hit the jump to see why the numbers have declined.
The primary reason for The Force Awaken's decline, is the amount of screens it received. During its opening week, the seventh Star Wars film had 167,060 showings. However, over the weekend it only had 66,568 showings - 10 percent less than Bonnie Bear 3. With this decline, analyst say the film is unlikely to hit its estimated China gross which was $125 million. By the time the film's run ends in China, it should end up somewhere between $111 million - $135 million.
Even though Star Wars: The Force Awakens has dropped dramatically, it still has grossed over $1.81 billion globally - something a film like Bonnie Bear 3 can only dream of doing. What do you think? Share your thoughts in the comment section below!
