SHANG-CHI 2 Depends On When The Next AVENGERS Film Gets Released

According to Shang-Chi star Simu Liu, a sequel to one of the best Phase 4 films of the MCU is definitely in the works but its release date is constantly shifting due to the next Avengers film.

As everyone around the world peeks over the fence to try out the new Twitter-killer, Threads, actor Simu Liu is no exception.  To kick off his launch on the new social media app, the action star conducted an "Ask Me Anything" fan session where one Marvel fan posed the question of when will Shang-Chi 2 be released.

"[sic] was told it would follow Avengers but that keeps pushing back due to circumstances beyond my control :( hope to have more concrete news to share soon."

Of course, every MCU fan knows the next film that will see Earth's Mightiest Heroes assemble once again is Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, which is currently set for release on May 01, 2026. It will be followed by Avengers: Secret Wars, which is currently set to be released on May 7, 2027.

However both of these films were first announced at  San Diego Comic-Con in July 2022 and originally set for release on May 2, 2025, and November 7, 2025, respectively.

There have been two delays since that initial announcement and odds are likely that more will follow if the WGA strike doesn't end soon or the  SAG-AFTRA decides to join them.

Director Destin Daniel Cretton is returning to direct the sequel but his success with Shang-Chi landed him the job of also directing Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.

Marvel previously had two unannounced films set for release on February 14, 2025, and July 25, 2025, but those were recently changed to unannounced "Disney" films.  That leaves February 13, 2026, as the only slot currently available for a Marvel film before The Kang Dynasty's release.

I thought the movie sucked but people seem to like it.

@SirDuckAlot - The first act was good, but then they started straying and by the third act it was a sill, overindulgent mess.

@SirDuckAlot - Meh I thought it was great. But each to their own as they would say.

Really enjoyed the first, despite some flaws. The fighting really popped.

Gotta do the Tournament of the Heavenly Cities in the sequel. Cut Aquafina out and you’re cooking. Also, gotta get Andy Lau or Sammo Hung in the cast too.

Psst.....Most people don't even remember who Shang Chi is. He didn't leave much of an impression and the first movies was just not very good.

First act good. Second act not great. Third act garbage.

@TyrantBossMedia - people still confuse Michael Myers with Jason Voorhees, so it's definitely not a recent MCU thing

I'm probably on the minority here but the first movie was mediocre IMO.

@Alucard28 - @TyrantBossMedia -

I am with you guys. I think the movie was way overrated. It was mediocre, maybe average at best for me.

The main thing for me was that it was not impactful & totally forgettable.

Patience is gonna have to be a virtue with these release dates.

For the next saga hope they go back to Avengers movies or some kind of crossover movie at the end of each phase and just a set group of characters

Like really would Infinity War have been as satisfying if they had another3 or 4 franchises added in, had no second entries in each franchise and had no interaction between characters outside of cameos?

Could have finished up what was left over (mainly Guardians and Antman), then put the focus on Black Panther, Doctor Strange, Captain Marvel, with maybe 2 other solo heroes like Shang Chi and another team (Good adaptions of Eternals or Inhumans), and add onto their supporting casts

Like really unless its one of the OG Avengers still hanging around, not going to have much weight if someone dies in Secret War, and wont be as believably effective on characters since we havent gotten proper crossover to build a group relationship

@dracula - yeah. Even with just to make the phases as it's own story. Now 3 phases are being treated like individual phases from previously, and each phase is getting even longer.

Hell, the people behind quantumania didn't even know they were starting phase 5. What's even the point of a phase? How did wakanda forever end phase 4?

@Origame - We put alot of thought to Phases. Phases are nothing more but a grouping of movies. there is no relevance to the phases.

@eagc1995 - it was relevant in literally every phase.

Phase 1 is introducing the characters who would then team up to save the world in avengers.

Phase 2 is how the characters left their status quo, leading to the ultron which gave the heroes food for thought on how they act as heroes.

Phase 3 is the final fracturing of the heroes, leading to the villain Thanos being able to win and forcing the heroes to come together in order to fix things.

All three phases had their own stories, and all working to build into one big narrative (almost a trilogy in and of itself).

Meanwhile Phase 4 is just completely arbitrary. It started randomly and it ended randomly.

When the Marvels shit the bed and GOTG 3 proves to be the last MCU moneymaker, this will slide off the face of the earth and to D+ if it's lucky.

Indy 5 has kicked Disney in the nuts so [frick]ing hard, they may never recover - what were the last back to back homeruns for Disney?

Captain America 4 will fail like a mother[frick]er and no Avengers movie with the current roster will ever get off the ground.

Deadpool 3 with Jackman will be the last of the summer member berry wine and you can piss on the fire, the party's over.

I can't believe the combined ineptitude for every legacy IP Disney has purchased - it would be impressive if it wasn't so tragic.

So many people here talked about how great this movie was.

It wasn't. It was pretty unremarkable & very forgettable.
