Supergirl Leaked Final Battle Clip Mocked For "Cringey" Song Choice

A brief clip from Supergirl's final battle has leaked online, and the accompanying song is being mercilessly mocked on social media. Is it really that bad?

Supergirl is now playing in theaters, and a clip from the movie's final battle has leaked online.

Though this footage doesn't show Kara Zor-El's showdown with Krem of the Yellow Hills (which is likely to prove highly divisive for very different reasons), we do see the Woman of Tomorrow make an explosive entrance before taking out some of the Brigands who have captured Ruthye Mary Knolle.

We've seen some of these shots in the various trailers and spots that have been released, but it's the choice of song that really stands out.

Pop music needle drops during action sequences are now fairly common in superhero movies and TV shows (particularly when James Gunn is involved), but it's arguably become an overused trope at this stage, and selecting the right tune to accompany the scene is obviously vital.

Does "The Middle" by Kelty Greye & KidMotel cut it? You can decide for yourselves, but this clip is being widely mocked online for its "embarrassing" and "cringey" use of music.

Supergirl has been met with mixed-negative reviews from critics (58% on Rotten Tomatoes), but audiences will be the deciding factor when it comes to the next DCU movie's success.

"When an unexpected and ruthless enemy threatens, Kara Zor-El is forced, against her will, to team up with an unlikely companion. Together, they embark on an epic cosmic journey where revenge and justice are at stake – and where Kara must confront her origins to find her own path as a hero. Alcock is joined by Matthias Schoenaerts, Eve Ridley, David Krumholtz, Emily Beecham and Jason Momoa in key roles. Peter Safran and James Gunn are producing the film for DC Studios."

Supergirl Woman of Tomorrow will also star Eve Ridley as Ruthye Mary Knolle, David Krumholtz and Emily Beecham as Kara's parents, Zor-El and Alura, and Matthias Schoenaerts as the villainous Krem of the Yellow Hills.

Our new Girl of Steel will take flight on June 26, 2026.

Said Gunn when the project was first announced: “In our series we see the difference between Superman who was sent to Earth and raised by loving parents from the time he was an infant, versus Supergirl who was raised on a rock, a chip off Krypton, and watched everyone around her die and be killed in terrible ways for the first 14 years of her life, and then came to Earth when she was a young girl. She’s much more hardcore, she’s not exactly the Supergirl we’re used to seeing.”

This movie looks and sounds more and more like a film studio saw Guardians of The Galaxy and said "yeah, we need to do something like this".

Really hate this L for Momoa and Alcock, but that's about all I can say.

An acoustic, depressed cover of an early 2000's upbeat pop-punk anthem. They really thought THAT was the best option out there ?

Goddamn, I knew this movie was gonna be bad, but *THIS* bad ?!

@OrgasmicPotatoe - love or hate the cover, it's actually one song that makes sense to the theme of the movie.Trust me, there are others that make little sense. The one in the bar scene especially.

The cover song is fine. Probably out of place, when a rousing score would be more fitting, but it sounds like a case that if the movie doesn't already have you in it's good graces by the time this scene happens, it probably won't help.

Sooo. I saw it last night. And while the movie is ok. Not great. Not bad. A bit paint by numbers at times and its oddly Guardians of the galaxy coded. This was the one needle drop that actually made sense thematically. Love or hate this cover, the original song was written based on a female fan who felt like she didn't fit in. The lyrics "It just takes some time
Little girl, you're in the middle of the ride
Everything, everything'll be just fine
Everything, everything'll be alright, alright " are actually thematically relevant to both main characters. Trust me, there are other needle drops where you are gonna go "huh?" But this one actually fit thematically. Now if you love or hate the scene it was in, completely up to you. But seeing it in context helps.

Same [frick]ing concept, pop song, action sequence, camera rolling around the 2 characters in the middle of the fight.

Rinse and repeat.

@MaxPaint - This scene really lost it for me. I literally paused it and pulled a grimace. So, so bad. Should have just put the time and energy into better sound design. Sick of these music video set pieces.

@MaxPaint - I officially got sick of that shit after watching the first season of Umbrella Academy where every single fight scene did that exact same thing.

Is everything in the DCU just GOTG in disguise?
FrankenDad
FrankenDad - 6/25/2026, 8:14 AM
@DannyBrandy20 - Gunn certainly set the style of the DCU as such, at least so far.

There is a segment that wants this movie to fail. I'll never understand that mindset....

James Gunn: use rousing operatic score over punk rock needle drops every once in a while or be a Jamaican white rapper
