SUPERMAN Actor Bradley Cooper Evades Question About Possibly Returning As Jor-El For MAN OF TOMORROW

In a recent interview, Bradley Cooper was asked about potentially returning as Jor-El for James Gunn's Man of Tomorrow, and evaded the question... by praising Peacemaker...

In the build-up to Superman's release, two key role were conspicuously absent from the various casting announcements, with director James Gunn doing his best to keep the actors playing the Man of Steel's biological parents under wraps.

Leaks from preview screenings later revealed that Bradley Cooper and Angela Sarafyan has been cast as Jor-El and Lara Lor-Von, but there was a twist involving these characters that did come as a surprise to fans once they were sitting down to watch the movie.

When Lex Luthor gains entry to the Fortress of Solitude, we learn that Clark Kent's parents actually sent him to Earth as a conqueror, and specifically chose the planet because its people are weak and will be easily dominated. There's also the implication that Kal-El should impregnate as many of Earth's women as possible in order to build a "harem" and restart the Kryptonian race.

Luthor uses this information to turn the public against Superman, who is initially under the impression that the message must be fake - as are we. But no, in the DCU, Jor-El and Lara Lor-Von are far from heroic figures that are generally depicted in the comics and all previous adaptations of Superman's origin.

There was speculation that the message Superman's parents sent him to Earth with may still turn out to have been manipulated, but Gunn made it very clear that there will be no retcon during an interview with Rolling Stone earlier this year.

"That’s the whole point of the movie, that Superman thinks he is doing something because it is his destiny and his Kryptonian parents have set him out to do this thing, and along the way he discovers through the love of the people who are actually his parents that he’s doing these things not because of someone else, but because of himself. It’s like taking accountability in the deepest way possible that his morality is not based on some figure outside of himself, but on his own choices. I think it’s really beautiful in that way, and I’m not gonna change that."

"And I don’t really even think of Jor-El and Lara as being totally evil," he added. "They just have this mindset that humans are less than what they are. We’re sea turtles to them. They’re just trying to keep the Kryptonian genes alive."

This plot point proved to be highly divisive, but it did leave the door open for some interesting future storylines involving Jor-El and Lara. Cooper was asked about potentially returning as Jor-El for Man of Tomorrow during a recent interview with Variety, but he completely evaded the question by talking about how much he's been enjoying the second season of Peacemaker.

Standard tactic when an actor has been instructed not to speak about a certain project, but would fans really want to see this take on Jor-El again, anyway? Be sure to share your thoughts in the comments section.

I fully expect Jor-El to be wearing KKK robes into this one while encouraging his son to breed and enslave the inferior earthlings.

@Feralwookiee - It was a Nauseating decision by Gunn. The film was bright and entertaining but poorly edited and cut and filled with awful choices like the highly divisive political plot, the Supershit stupidity, the highly whiney Superman, Terrific and Guy being more enjoyable to watch than the main character, zero patriotic Superman, no big “Cheer” moments aside from the Terrific scene and Cena’s cameo, maybe, and more. The further away I get from when I watched it the more disappointing that film becomes and I haven’t watched it again which is unusual for me for a superhero film.

@SteviesRightFoo - Snyder made MOS, arguably the best Superman film. Don't ever compare him to this slop

Maybe Jor-El is the threat in Man of Tomorrow? Brainiac is somehow using him?

Well they [frick]ed up and put the character in a pickle. Either he is Nazi scum that wanted his son to overthrow Earth, which means I don't care about the character of Jor El anymore... OR, they go back on the twist and have him be a good dude. Either way, I don't care for this version of the character anymore.

@TheVandalore - Superman is jewish tikkun olam, so jor-el would be old testament yhwh.

@SirReginald - Superman is born on the planet Krypton.

There are no Jews on the planet Krypton.

Superman is not Jewish by Birth.

Superman is taken in by the Kents who are lapsed Methodists.

Superman is not rasied Jewish.

Superman marries Lois Lane who is a lapsed Catholic.

Superman is not Jewish by marriage.

However, Superman is a (lapsed?) Jewish creation and would be the first person to try to get people to see beyond race as a minority of (mostly) one.

Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.

@UltimaRex - Superman stands for the tikkun olam jew amongst the dumb goyim. Dressing like a cheap, nerdy, unassuming jew but he really holds all the power. He was sent to earth by James Gunns yhwh/jor-el as the moses figure to lead the chosenite supremacists.

Honestly , i would be down to see Cooper’s Jor-El honestly since i think you could delve into some interesting material…

We could find out Jor-El is alive ala Mr Oz in the comics & such and perhaps he finds Kal-El on Earth not doing what he was told to do after which he reveals himself to the latter during which Clark airs his grievances while his dad remains resolute that they felt like any parent they were doing what was best for him aswell as their own species.

After that , maybe you can have Jor-El spend time with the Kent’s which changes his low opinions of humanity and see Clark being a hero that eventually makes him realize he was wrong to tell his son to do what he said to do and that he’s proud of him.

Obviously that’s a rather simplistic version of that arc but i think it could work given Gunn himself has said that he doesn’t view the El’s as evil and honestly they came across as more feeling like they had to do this rather that they wanted to via the message they sent.
