LANTERNS: Kyle Chandler Raves About "Fantastic" Experience On The DCU Set

Kyle Chandler raves about playing Hal Jordan in HBO’s Lanterns, calling the DCU series an "excellent experience" while also giving a shout-out to his co-star, Aaron Pierre.

Kyle Chandler was recently out promoting his role as DEA Agent Mateo Nix in Ben Affleck and Matt Damon's upcoming Netflix film, The Rip.

However, the conversation on The Today Show briefly switched gears to touch on Chandler's highly anticipated role as Green Lantern Hal Jordan in the upcoming HBO superhero drama, Lanterns.

When asked about the DC Studios show, Chandler stated, "I've not had so much fun shooting something as I did that. The people on it were absolutely wonderful, from the top to the bottom. I can't say enough about Chris Mundy and the producers and the DC folks. It was an excellent experience, and I expect the show to be as good as the experience I had [making it]. Aaron Pierre, I worked with him, and we had a great time- and Kelly  Macdonald, it was just fantastic.

In other recent news, DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran commented on the decision to push the DCU  superhero television series from early-2026 to Summer 2026, stating, "It was about when it made sense for it to be released, so (HBO Max) could get the right lead in, the right promotion. Because it's an important show for everybody, and the show is going to be great. It was about the right timing, so it's going to be… it's late summer. But there's a reason for it."

Kyle Chandler Hal Jordan Green Lanterns HBO series cast

Lanterns stars Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan and Aaron Pierre as John Stewart.  Fans will also see Nathan Fillion reprise his role as the heroic yet equally abrasive Guy Gardner, connecting Lanterns to his appearance in James Gunn's Superman.

The stellar cast also includes Kelly Macdonald as Sheriff Kerry, a pivotal character in the local mystery, while Ulrich Thomsen will portray the iconic rogue Sinestro, Hal Jordan's former mentor.

Other key cast members include Garret Dillahunt as the conspiracy-minded William Macon, Jason Ritter as his charming son Billy, and Nicole Ari Parker as John Stewart's mother, Bernadette.

Back in July 2025, the 8-episode HBO superhero drama wrapped filming.

The official synopsis for the series states that the plot centers on a seemingly isolated murder in the American heartland, specifically Nebraska.

Somehow, this local crime will draw the attention of two intergalactic space cops, veteran Green Lantern Corps member Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) and his new recruit, John Stewart (Aaron Pierre). It seems that a murder in Nebraska will have far-reaching and very sinister consequences for the wider DCU universe.

Before Warner Bros. merged with Discovery in April 2022, HBO was developing a Green Lantern series centered on Alan Scott and Guy Gardner.

The project was being led by Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim, and Seth Grahame-Smith, with Finn Wittrock cast as Guy Gardner and Jeremy Irvine set to play Alan Scott.

However, things changed after James Gunn and Peter Safran took over as co-heads of the newly formed DC Studios.

Under their leadership, the show was reworked to focus instead on Hal Jordan and John Stewart, so as to better reflect the direction and creative vision of the new DC Universe.

@harryba11zack - Right, he HAS to be saying all of that out obligation because he's an actor and there's no way he actually enjoyed the experience.

Yeesh...

@LoudLon - he may or may not have, the point is that actors are paid to promote the product, if they do not then it can have a negative affect on them getting their next gig.

@harryba11zack - He wasn’t set out to promote green lantern but I would think if he really didn’t like the experience he would probably give more of a one word answer and move on. With that said, having a good experience on set doesn’t necessarily translate to the show or movie resonating with the audience. Plenty of people love working with Zack Snyder and the films are still considered pretty divisive. But not everything is a conspiracy and he may have just enjoyed his experience so I’m not sure why there has to be negativity and assuming he’s lying just to promote the show. 🤔. But it is what it is. Pretty cold and snowy by me, hope you’re having a nice Sunday 😃

@epc1122 - No, just no. They’re paid to act in it, but they’re also paid to promote it, it’s part of their contract when they sign up. Do you honestly think people go on Jimmy Fallon out of choice?

@soberchimera - he also wasn’t doing an interview to promote the green lantern show and again, he could had given a one word answer and not give a detailed answer. Plus, there are people who enjoy their job. I would think, more times than not the cast of something get along and there isn’t too much drama. Sure it happens like Blake livelys last movie but I don’t think that’s too common where the participants don’t meet on the red carpet and then there’s a lawsuit that happens. I’m sure there are times when people exaggerate how much they enjoyed their experience, but can still have a good time. Some people also like to go on talk shows and talk about their movies. Some find it a chore, but some probably like going on 👍

I’m really starting to get worried that show is going to more 2010’s political slop. That one shot in the trailer of the town hall draped in American flags looked like something straight out of 2019 Watchmen. It feel like it’s going to be filled with “what are doing around here boy” shtick and rural white man bad nonsense.

Just us a show about space cops with magic rings and domino mask and cool it with Obama era politics.

@BruceWayng - WB can’t help themselves. It’s Leftist group think. When you have all that money and all these people kissing your ass telling you how great you are, like these Hollywood types, the money and accolades swell your head and makes you an “expert” on politics. And since they’re all Limousine Liberals and daily problems like violent crime and mass immigration don’t effect them, they become activists.

@Bucky74 - you’re honestly telling me this: “ When you have all that money and all these people kissing your ass telling you how great you are, like these Hollywood types, the money and accolades swell your head and makes you an “expert” on politics.” does not describe him? He’s a reality star who has absolutely no prior history to politics before being president and treats his presidency like a reality show. The only reason why he went for a second term is to escape prison. Nothing to do with tds, it’s just an honest opinion. His first year back in office has been a total sh*t show and failure.

Bucky74
Bucky74 - 1/18/2026, 2:14 PM
@epc1122 - You have SEVERE TDS. The economy was booming during his first term (until Covid), we had a secure border (the lowest illegal immigration in history), and multiple world peace deals. We had record crippling inflation under the radical Biden admin, the world was on fire with foreign wars, and the illegal immigration crisis Trump is trying to fix happened under Biden's disastrous and deadly open borders. Currently, inflation is 2.7 (and falling), gas is hitting record lows, the market is doing great, we've had a historically low murder rate (hum, does that have anything to do with all the deportations), and Trump brokered 9 world peace deals and has been given nobel peace prizes as gifts (https://nypost.com/2026/01/16/us-news/venezuelan-opposition-leader-maria-corina-machado-reveals-why-she-gave-trump-her-nobel-peace-prize-medal/). Lol, you folks really do invent your own reality.

Trump was literally raised in the business world and has done mostly great things for this nation and Americans. The Sh8t show has been the Dems insane attempt to destroy our sovereignty and hide their theft of 9 billion in U.S. tax dollars.
epc1122
epc1122 - 1/18/2026, 2:34 PM
@Bucky74 - the economy is as doing well under Obama and Trump the first term didn’t mess it up unto Covid. It’s not what you do when things are good, it’s what do you do when you’re faced with adversity and he totally mishandled Covid and kept lying. Trump is the biggest grifter. When things are good with the economy he wants to take credit and when things are bad, he blames Biden. I wasn’t even sighting the first term though. I just said this last year, we lost jobs, unemployment wad high and when Biden left office inflation was at 2.4 and now i believe we’re at 2.6. Just about everything Trump promised on the campaign trail was a lie. He didn’t stop wars or lower prices on the first day and to my knowledge, he’s the only president to say that the opposing political party should be executed. Trump sets fire to things and then puts them out and wants to take credit for putting them out. Hate to tell you, but we are the ones paying for the tariffs. Trumps businesses have been bankrupted, even his casino’s. How do you bankrupt a casino?? lol He’s a failed business man who’s also a criminal. As far as crime going down, it started to go down prior to Trump was in office and Trump actually took away funding for programs that helped crime go down. His first term as president, crime was actually at a high. If Trump were really for law and order, he wouldn’t have pardoned the people for the January 6th riot.

@Bucky74 - I know it wouldn’t look like it from my last post, but I’m really trying to stay away from talking about politics on here. Should you respond to my last post, which you’re more than welcomed to, I won’t be further commenting regarding this topic. Sometimes it’s hard for me not respond but we all have our own perspective and viewpoints. I mean you no disrespect and we’re just going to have to agree to disagree which to me is fine. @epc1122 - I’m going to check out The Running Man tonight. I love the original with Arnold but this is supposed to be very different. It received mixed reviews. The cast is great though and Amazon Prime keeps offering me free weekly subscriptions to different streaming services (I think MGM has that flick) no matter how many times I try them out, lol. It’s actually a great little hidden secret. As long as you don’t forget to cancel before the week trial is up. I’ve seen a ton of horror films on Shudder that way and if I really like the service, I usually keep it for a few months until I been through everything I want to see.

@DocSpock - I honestly can’t believe I’m getting sucked into this but other than the stock market (which hit highs under Biden as well) there’s no actual metric under Trump where the economy is doing better than a year ago. Less jobs, inflation about the same, and the US dollar is worth less. If Trump thought the economy was so good, than why cut want the interest rates? Generally, interest rates are higher in a good, strong economy to prevent overheating and inflation, while rates are lowered to stimulate a weak economy; a strong economy usually means high demand, leading central banks (like the Fed) to raise rates to make borrowing more expensive, which cools spending and controls prices, but in a struggling economy, they lower rates to encourage borrowing, spending, and growth. Trump continually says he inherited a bad economy and then proceeds to tell his base that the economy is doing great. He’s a human contradiction who will say anything if it benefits him. But please let me know how the economy is better than a year ago?

@Bucky74 - If you have paramount plus, I think running man is also on that streaming service. Never saw the original but the current one is on my list of things to see but because it got mixed reviews, it’s not high on the list. I’ve been watching the Pitt today, so far I’m finding it decent. 👍

@epc1122 - Have to check it out, thanks. Not sure if you’re interested in gothic horror, but I thought Frankenstein on Netflix was brilliant. It was a little slow moving at times for some, but I absolutely loved it. The ending also packed a surprisingly moving emotional punch.

@Bucky74 - I did see Frankenstein, a little slow for me but overall I thought it was really well done. One of the things I’m not a fan of with Netflix is that I can’t buy movies from them. Definitely one I would get. I started watching the rip but only saw the first 20 minutes because I got caught up on other things. I recently saw bugonia with Emma stone that I for the most part enjoyed too. That’s streaming on peacock 👍
