PEACEMAKER: Watch SUPERMAN Star [SPOILER]'s R-rated Cameo From Episode 6, "Ignorance Is Chris"

In last night's episode of Peacemaker season 2, Rick Flag Sr. seeks out the help of a mysterious prisoner in Belle Reve, and you can now see the Superman star's cameo in its entirety here. Check it out...

Episode 6 of Peacemaker included a surprise appearance from Superman star Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. Imprisoned in Belle Reve for 265 years after nearly destroying Metropolis, Lex is using a cane after being savaged by Krypo the Superdog.

Rick Flag Sr. needs his help to track down Chris Smith's Quantum Unfolding Chamber, but in exchange, Lex wants his freedom.

Rick isn't so sure about that, but it's clear they have a similar worldview. When the villain initially sits down, he expresses dismay at the state of the world—the A.R.G.U.S. Director seems similarly disgruntled—but is more perturbed by his current surroundings.

"Last time I saw you, you were denying that metahumans were a threat," Lex says. "And now, it seems they're taking over the world. The Justice Gang and Superman determining international politics...meanwhile, I'm here in Belle Reve listening to a bear-sized man with dragon skin butt-f***ing a glowing twink with cartoon eyes in the cell beside me every night."

This is an R-rated project from filmmaker James Gunn, so we're not exactly shocked that he had Lex discuss two random metahumans "butt-f***ing" instead of namedropping some of Creature Commandos' characters, for example.

Regardless, it's a cool cameo, and one that may be laying the groundwork for 2027's Man of Tomorrow. The stage is set for Lex to earn his freedom, escaping justice in the same manner as his comic book counterpart repeatedly has.

With the sinister truth revealed about Peacemaker's alternate reality, the stakes are high as we head into the final two episodes. You can read our full recap of "Ignorance Is Chris" by clicking here.

You can watch Lex Luthor's cameo in Peacemaker season 2 in its entirety below.

Peacemaker season 2 follows Chris Smith, the vigilante superhero, as he struggles to reconcile his past with his newfound sense of purpose while continuing to kick righteous evildoer butt in his misguided quest for peace at any cost. He discovers an alternate world where life is everything he wishes it could be. But this discovery also forces him to face his traumatic past and take the future into his own hands.

Season 2 stars John Cena, Danielle Brooks, Freddie Stroma, Jennifer Holland, Steve Agee, Frank Grillo, Sol Rodríguez, David Denman, Brey Noelle, and Tim Meadows.

James Gunn wrote all eight episodes of Peacemaker and directed three, including the first episode. Gunn, Peter Safran, and Cena serve as executive producers. Greg Mottola, Peter Sollett, and Alethea Jones also direct.

In our review of Peacemaker season 2's first five episodes, we wrote, "Peacemaker season 2 feels like a wholly superfluous addition to the new DCU, and lacks the stakes and emotion that made season 1 so special. Fortunately, it’s buoyed by some fun surprises for fans and another exceptional turn from John Cena."

Six episodes of Peacemaker season 2 are now streaming on HBO Max.

@SpideyPuffsMJ - It's next to none. This show isn't even close to charting and ZERO people are talking about it. Gunn has failed DC.

@WalletsClosed - Not really. Pre-Avatar 2 everyone was screaming "Avatar 1 left no cultural impact and nobody talks about it anymore, therefore the second one will flop!" and that's basically what you are doing with Peacemaker/James Gunn.

@McMurdo - maybe I'm being a bit harsh on him, but you know great villians like ledgers joker, hardys Bane and brolins thanos...they all had mannerisms when delivering the lines that helped sell the performance. Even the same can be said about corensweat with the lines he was given but hoult just seems 1 note whether he's being rocky, menacing or showing intelligence IMO

Hoult's Lex is the best thing in the show.... the line about lgbtqp was pretty cringe tho and doesn't sound right coming from the character for some reason

@kseven - "the line about lgbtqp was pretty cringe tho and doesn't sound right coming from the character for some reason"

This entire show is degenerate and it's made by your main guy. Why anyone would want Lex saying some nonsense like that is insane.

Great cameo somewhat ruined by Gunn's juvenile "LOL, 'buttf***ing'" humour.

@JoshWilding - haven't watched it yet.....but that's a shame. it's officially becoming tiresome. I loved Guardians 3 and thoroughly enjoyed Supes but this season of Peacemaker has been horrendous IMO. and i really enjoyed s1.
JoshWilding
JoshWilding - 9/26/2025, 10:18 AM
@McMurdo - It's not working for me either, really. Cena is phenomenal, and there are some good ideas, but it feels like it was written quickly (Gunn is nearing quantity over quality status), and like all his R-rated stuff, the humour is lazy and relies on crass, cheap jokes. I'm no prude, but why waste an opportunity to have Lex reference being in a cell next to Frankenstein or whatever just so he can joke about butt-[frick]ing.
Clintthahamster
Clintthahamster - 9/26/2025, 4:37 PM
@JoshWilding - I'm really enjoying the show, but I have to agree that Gunn's going a little too hard on the TV-MA/Rated R DCU stuff. I couldn't get past the first episode of Creature Commandos, and Hoult's cameo didn't land for me for the same reason.
McMurdo

Gunn can't help himself talk about "Butt [frick]ing". I'm sure he said that in one of his many disgusting tweets about kids. This guy has completely lost it. No one is watching Peacemaker, it's not charting, Superman flopped, and Shitface and SuperBrat will be miserable flops.

People were mad that 'PEACEMAKER' was gonna tie into 'MAN OF TOMORROW' somehow and we just saw how. Lex is gonna curry favor and there will be a small line about this in the film that fills in the audience that didn't watch this.

Ah , the benefit of shooting Superman and Peacemaker S2 somewhat simultaneously at the same place…

That aside , it is cool to see Lex in the show tbh!!.

It was a really good scene and I like how Hoult is playing the character here perhaps even a bit moreso then he did in Superman which seems colder & more sinister (maybe even darker which makes sense since he’s ended up in prison for life for in his eyes trying to help the world).

I don’t see this Lex as of now trying to atone for his sins or whatever since he feels like he’s doing the right thing so Flagg giving him an offer for “redemption” is interesting in that Lex might play along and act like he’s a changed man with this Superman giving him the benefit of the doubt perhaps until it’s revealed he’s the same old Lex.

Anyway we’ll see but I’m certainly intrigued…

Also cue the people clutching their peals and being all “think about the kids” in regards to Lex saying butt[frick]ed for a mature rated show , come on guys.

Like Superman, this Lex Luthor seems so weak! The fact that he was so easily captured is begging for leniency and is walking around with a cane. Not a good look. There is a reason why Heath Ledger's Joker was so menacing; whenever people thought they had him dead to rights...it turned out he had outsmarted everyone. It is early, but this Lex Luthor is so far underwhelming.
