Many Elder Scrolls fans reacted in outrage today when IGN reported that the latest game in the series, Elder Scrolls Online, will cost $15 monthly for subscribers. Even on Youtube, IGN's announcement video (See Below) received significantly more dislikes than likes.

Charging a flat monthly (or subscription) fee means that we will offer players the game we set out to make, and the one that fans set out to play, Matt Firor, general manager of ZeniMax Online, told Gamestar. Going with any other model meant that we would have to make sacrifices and changes that we didn't want to make. ZeniMax is offering players a free month after purchasing The Elder Scrolls Online, but any following time in the game will incur the $15 fee. Firor said that the subscription fee fits the sense of an open world that other pay models can't, and that a fee will let players go where they want, be who they want and do what they want.

With a currently unspecified release date, The Elder Scrolls Online is coming soon to PC, Mac, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. But after this announcement, are you even interested in getting the game anymore? Sound off below...

You don't know who I am? Well sit back because my story is a beautiful tale of power and integrity, a captivating experience and ingenious story.

When I was sent to prison for a crime I didn't commit, I signed up for the weapon X program where I got some acid stuff in my eye which caused me to go blind except for whenever I shout the word, "SHAZAM." I was part of Project: Rebirth and given an indestructible shield, however I had gotten bitten by a radioactive spider which caused my father Odin to banish me from my home, only for both my parents to get shot in an alley. And to top it all off, I was exposed to gamma radiation when my mother died and I was abducted from Earth by a strange blue-skinned alien, which gave me the ability to teleport, shapeshift, read minds, and squirt milk from my nose.

Aren't PS4 owners already paying for online access? Now are you saying that they'll have to pay more for this?? Or is this just in general whether you pay for online access or the online Elder Scrolls??

I'm a bit confused here...

I don't get the outrage, but then, I've played several MMOs over the years that had a sub fee.

In 5 months, it will likely be free to play, anyways... And if you go the Sony route, that will come with a hack from Anonymous. :-p

When the hell we're gonna get Red Guard on GOG ?
This game is not working on WinXP, Win7. It's only working on Win 95 (not sure of 98). The guide how to make this game work in Win7 is so long, I gave up almost immediately. Even Virtual Box is not working for me (i've got a problem with finding the available drives, once i jump in to old windows mode)

I like the Elder Scrolls series but $15 a month is too much. I'm not really a fan of MMOs anyway, I prefer traditional single player games.

I'll give it 5 months before it becomes free to play.

Skyrim is one of my favorite games of all time. This pisses me off. I already pay for x box live. I'm not gonna pay more to play this game. Nope. Its off my list until they change it.

@Alonzo.. PS4 will be paying extra. To play multiplayer games, you need that PSN+ account which is $50/$60 a year.

Since computer ppl still gotta pay the subscription fee, they gonna make console ppl pay it too.

That $15 a month is average for these computer games.

PS4 owners will have to pay PS plus to play online next generation.

But when it comes to MMO's on PS4 yo do not have to have PS Plus to play them online. They are free to play just as they are advertised. All the mmo's on PS4 do not require you to have PS Plus to play them like DC Universe and Planetside 2. IT is up to the publishers to make that decision but none have made that decision to put them behind the PS Plus service.

The free-to-play MMOs are just as good, if not better, than the pay-to-play ones...I'm looking at you and your silly cartoony graphics World of Warcraft.

Bethesda must really be full of people high big egos. Either that, or they took their President/CEO drinking when they sold him on this idea. >.<

@ckal - Obviously you don't have kids who play mmos. Those subscriptions are ridiculous in my opinion. My wife and I played Everquest and City of Heroes, which were both subscription based AND we still had to purchase the expansion packs! Now that our kids play MMOs, I just couldn't see shelling out $75 a month (family of 5) for a video game. Especially with all the free-to-play ones out there nowadays.

What people really need to understand is that Elder Scrolls online wont be Skyrim online. The game play will be an MMO which means the game play mechanics will be the exact same as any other MMO out there. There only difference is that textures skins and any polish will be of the Elder Scrolls Universe. Seriously if you want to play an MMO then go play a free one. If you want to play Skyrim online then keep waiting.

I thought companies had figured out that subscription only play didn't work anymore...

@Lizero. Have you played Defiance? If not then you don't know how wrong you are. You can play alone, or with a group. Just like DC universe. The days of MMOs with group requirements like a controller, tank. Etc are over. If that's not what you meant then ignore me, you just didn't elaborate. Theres no reason you couldn't play a game like Skyrim online. The menu would just have to be tweaked for magic users mostly. A quick menu would be needed. Bethesda stated before they have no interest in multiplayer though. I wonder why they changed their minds?

@WYLEEJAY No I haven't played defiance. My comment was mainly based at people who think they will get a Skyrim online when in reality, that is not what they are going to get.

Will likely underwhelm both critically and financially just like almost every other high profile mmo that has been released since WoW.
