Marvel's The Avengers has kicked off with an even more impressive start overseas than any of us could have possibly imagined. Breaking record after record, the latest film from Marvel Studios has opened up at #1 in each of the territories that Disney has so far released it in, and looks set to take the US by storm next weekend. Critics and fans alike love the superhero ensemble and this positive word of mouth is sure to help the Joss Whedon helmed flick continue to take more and more money over the next few weeks. However, how much do you think it will ultimately end up making? With some analysts already predicting $1B+, do you think it's really possible that Earth's Mightiest Heroes will become equally as mighty when it comes to topping the likes of Avatar and The Dark Knight as one of the highest grossing films ever?! Here's your chance to decide...

Sorry had to cross that one off my bucket list. Back to business, 1B seems more than attainable. Seems as it hasn't even opened in the US yet.

I'm guessing somewhere between $900M and $1B. Wouldn't be surprised if it grosses more though.

$850-900 million. But wouldn't be surprised if it surpassed that at all.

When it's all said and done: $400-450 million foreign and $450-500 million in the U.S.

i think this might make the billion mark and maybe even a little bit plus.

but i think tdkr will make more than it did in 08 because of its attachment trailer to the avengers.

both will win but i really think tdkr will make more.

900m - 1b.

I seriously doubt it'll go over 1b. It might be a couple of thousands short...

I doubt it will make more than 800million. there's a massive hype surrounding the movie because of the sickening amount of money spent on marketing, but it's already dying down now in the UK.
TASM, TDKR, The Hobbit will all be more successful.

Nah, I don't really care. The important thing for me is I have witness the most awesome CBM a comic book fan has ever hoped for, straight from the pages of the comic book. Whedon respected the genre and the source material. The B.O. is just a bonus for us because if it does well then there is no doubt that we're getting a sequel.

@GUNSMITH

Why did you do that? I don't undertand, do you hate the movie?

If this film doesn't make a billion dollars I will be shocked. It wasn't being shown more in 3D that 2D I would say around 700 million, but 3D should enough to carry it past the billion dollar mark. I mean seriously, freaking Transformers 3 grossed over a billion dollars.

One of the things that bugged me (and I know this is minor) but,

Minor spoilers in the middle.

When Loki is in Germany and he yells at the Germans to kneel he does it in English. They all knelt at once, it wasn't like a few people that understood English knelt than the others followed. They all knew what he was talking about. Then he went into his entire diatribe about how it was there natural position, etc. The only thing I ask is, how the freak did he know what he was saying?? I wish they would have had Loki speak German, for some reason I think it would have made him sound more sinister. Like I said it's a small, small knit pick, one of very few, in an overall very enjoyable film.

Don't read the middle part, if you want to avoid (minor) spoilers.

Overseas looks huge so far and I think 450M domestic is a reasonable ceiling now.

1 billion should happen.

But yeah guys stop posting crappy bootleg video's on this thread, and spoiling great scenes for those who haven't seen them.

@JudgeDeath: Dying down? Your evidence for that? I'm from/in the UK - Cardiff to be precise - and what I'm seeing is the polar opposite to 'dying down' - the word is spreading and people who were on the fence are being swayed by the word of mouth. The interest is growing - even from the normally rather stand-offish Guardianistas after Bradshaw's glowing review. "Dying down" my arse.
JudgeDeath
JudgeDeath - 4/29/2012, 11:19 AM
@RidiculousFanBoyDemands - they couldn't do that because the makers of the movie dont think their target audience is capable of withstanding 50 seconds of subtitles.

I've already seen the movie twice already FYI

Kermode also just reviewed it on Friday - another glowing review (he doesn't show up on RT btw, but his reviews are widely listened to). You don't have to like it - that's fine - but don't tell porkies, coz you'll be caught out...

Keith - it's my opinion. We'll see in a month how she goes. Im saying 800 million.
