THE AVENGERS Tracking For A $125 Million Opening Weekend

THE AVENGERS Tracking For A $125 Million Opening Weekend

We've already heard some predictions (guesses?) for what The Avengers might eventually make, but early tracking now indicates big things for Earth's Mightiest Heroes.

Deadline reveals that early tracking for Marvel's The Avengers has come in as "incredibly strong". Their industry sources indicate that it has 23% 'First Choice' and 62% 'Definite Interest' for all audiences, with high levels of interest from both men and women. This means that it looks set to be a strong three/four quadrant movie. What does that mean? The phrase refers to a movie which is able to attract parents and children, men and women, and brings in huge amounts of revenue on opening weekend (not an easy feat by any means). As for exactly how huge that will be, Marvel and Disney are currently on track for a $100+M domestic opening over the three day holiday. Disney and theatre owners are apparently still adding more and more screens for the release, while midnight screenings could be record breaking. Exactly how much the superhero ensemble will make currently rests on how many screenings can be squeezed into 72 hours and how many staff will be willing to work the extra hours to keep it running.

STARRING:

Chris Evans as Steve Rogers/Captain America
Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man
Chris Hemsworth as Thor
Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton/Hawkeye
Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Ramanoff/Black Widow
Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/Hulk
Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury
Clark Gregg as Agent Coulson
Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill
Tom Hiddleston as Loki

RELEASE DATE: April 26th, 2012. (UK) May 4th, 2012. (US)

Really?! You think it would gross more than Iron Man 2 ($128,122,480) on it's opening weekned. Still, fantastic numbers.

@ grif Awesome clip. This movie is going to be bigger than big. I truly do not know if a lot of the people who frequent this site realize how many non-comic fans know about this movie. I deal with people from all walks of life on a daily basis and I am very surprised about the amount of people who show interest in this movie compared to other upcoming movies.

125-135 million!!!

May 4 is gonna take forever to get here. Soon alot of spoilers will come out, I bet the end credit scene(if there is one) will be online way before May 4, lol.

I think im gonna stay away from this website until the movie is released. But I doubt it. LOL.

It would open bigger in the US if it were not already open for a week or more overseas. The online chatter will kill off some of that driving "be the first to see it" mentality.

That is still an insane amount of cash though.

Yeah @CapemA the Avengers seems to have crossed over into acceptable conversation topic with a lot of my non-comic friends. Maybe it's the combo of so many childhood heroes in one epic movie

Being in Australia I am super pumped it arrives here early but I am confused with this new trend of staggered openings - surely piracy will kill off early receipts in markets where it opens late...

You guys do realize 125 is the minimum right? Disney has plenty of time to rev up the marketing even more between now and opening weekend. THG was also tracking at $125 milly at one point and look what happened. Don't be surprised if it does more.

Yeah that's actually not THAT much..I think they are aiming too low, I reckon it'll gross more.

I am not an investor in Marvel or Disney, but I hope they make the $$'s that make them happy, so more Marvel movies come our way (and if it's a huge ass record breaking hit, it could lead to higher budgets for their forthcoming projects).

maaaannn....for me this is OLD news.

i'm tellin ya...this movie will be THE biggest thing since Avatar. it'll most likely to TOP the blue cat people at the box office..domestically and GLOBALLY.

outside it's better or not than TDKR, in terms of its overall quality as a film, NO one can deny The Avengers' more universal wider appeal. TDKR is more adult-oriented, while The Avengers, as the article points out, is more accessible to a much wider audience.

being this a super hero movie, which generally is aimed at male audience, it's got a number of HUNKS for the ladies...Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth and, of course, RDJ (for the older ones)..so, the Twilight/boy band sex appeal factor...CHECK.

just like The Lord of the Rings trilogy and Avatar, before it, Avengers is DEFINITELY an EVENT movie. and EVERYONE goes to an event movie.

I am a complete cheapskate, and I am driving 2 hours to see it at a midnight showing in IMAX 3D, and my wife is willing to come with me. If I, cheap as I am, am willing to do that, this movie is going to make a CRAP LOAD of money.

The tracker just started recently, it starts small and grows larger.
What I found interesting was that its so high in the four major groups. Parents, Children, Men, Women... That's pretty damn good.

I see it doing more than Hunger Games, but it NEEDS to add more times and theaters.
As I've looked for tickets for May4th night, I only see about 5-6 showings at certain theatrs.

When I looked into seeing the Hunger Games opening weekend... I swear it was a showing every 20 minutes, literally... Also multiple screens.

Disney and Marvel better fix that, sold out theaters and few showings will turn people off and delay them seeing it

Please make this break the opening day weekend and certainly make it break Hunger Games.

Come on CBM community, see it multiple times and drag your friends and family so we can get this baby to open with $170+ million!

Studios normally will release numbers lower than expected for a films opening, theyll normally put an expectation number and thatll be what their hoping, normally films big enough for large estimates do somewhere from 30-50 m more than the estimate. By the way those tracking numbers are higher than hunger games, and the estimate, their just estimating close to their biggest opeing iron man 2. So this shows we should expect atleast 155m opening maybe more, hunger games estimate was 90-110 m and that did 40 m better.

If it breaks the midnight record that would officially make it bigger than harry potter which made 43m just at midnight showings, if that were to happen the avengers would have a 90-100 m opening day which would be 170m opening, but i dont see it beating harry potters opening night harry potters bigger than the avengers especially as it was the final one.

A $125 million domestic OW would be really crappy.

DISNEY and MARVEL needs to get on the ball over the next 3 weeks.

The more money, the better for all comic book movies.

DC also.
