Last week, French publication Le Journal du Dimanche published an interview with The Batman - Part II star Sebastian Stan, in which the actor (supposedly) mentioned that he will take on the role of Harvey Dent in Matt Reeves' long-awaited sequel.
"I also can't say anything about The Batman: Part II , by Matt Reeves, where I play Harvey Dent [in theaters February 16, 2028, editor's note] . The beauty of this profession also lies in participating in projects of this scale, which I love as a viewer. Right now, I'm really looking forward to seeing The Odyssey, by Christopher Nolan; it looks amazing."
This was a direct quote attributed to Stan, but it did seem a little odd that he'd say he couldn't discuss the movie before revealing which character he's playing in the same breath, and the article was soon amended.
When Stan's casting was announced, the trades indicated that he would play Dent/Two-Face, but this was never confirmed, and rumors later circulated that he'd actually been cast as deranged serial killer Victor Zsasz. For what it's worth, Jeff Sneider remains adamant that Stan is playing this twisted villain and not Gotham City's DA.
Whichever character he's playing, Stan is now being much more careful when discussing the movie and his role.
When asked whether he'd be undergoing a "transformation" for the sequel during an interview with Allocine, he replied: "There are always transformations, external or internal, when you play a character."
In a previous interview with Deadline, the Thunderbolts* actor said that he will play “many roles in this one," which was taken as a pretty big hint that he will portray Dent and his villainous alter-ego.
As for Scarlett Johansson, there are rumors that she will play a version of Poison Ivy. A blonde woman many believe to be the actress' stunt double was recently spotted riding shotgun in the Batmobile.

Earlier this year, Reeves officially announced the movie's main cast on social media.
The filmmaker confirmed that Robert Pattinson (Bruce Wayne/Batman), Jeffrey Wright (Jim Gordon), Andy Serkis (Alfred Pennyworth), Colin Farrell (Oz Cobb/The Penguin), Jayme Lawson (Bella Réal) and Gil Perez-Abraham (Officer Martinez) will reprise their roles, alongside new cast members Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Charles Dance, Sebastian Koch and Brian Tyree Henry.
Reeves did not reveal the characters Gotham City's new additions will play.
After several previous delays, The Batman - Part II was scheduled to arrive in theaters on October 1, 2027, but was recently pushed back to February 18, 2028.
