UPDATE: BOX OFFICE: Friday Number Lower Than Expected For TDKR; Heading To $170M Weekend In US?

seeing this at 8. Its been a long time coming.

Going for an 11pm show out here in Oakland, CA. Can't wait!

I saw it last night...
It was good, but I have to admit that I was a little underwhelmed with most aspects of the film...
Anne Hathaway was the biggest shocker for me, she did an amazing job as Selina Kyle...

yea I bet some people got the heebie jeebies at going to this movie on the very same day as Aurora but I think it was a one off

It's going to hurt at the box office because ALL advertisments for this movie have been pulled off the air and online due to you-know-who... People sitting at home watching tv have NO CLUE of its release and WB is going to hurt because it was pulled off the air. Nooffense but I dont see how marketing a movie will change anything. Yes it was a horrible tragedy one person chose to make, but to pull all forms of advertising isnt going to change the past. I reccommend this movie to anyone! Im def. gongto see it again!!!

One of the sad things that will always be a topic of debate now is whether the tragic event affected the box office in a negative or positive way. There is no way to be able to establish either, so it is all just convoluted moving forward. Truly a sad way for things to happen.

Blame that on the guy who went on a shooting rampage!

The tragedy had a huge effect on this. Networks won't air tv ads, WB won't report the numbers until Monday, people are scared... I mean it's just wrong. I'm hoping it will have strong legs though.

The tragedy has actually perpetuated a continual 'marketing" campaign in the media that far exceeds any paid advertising campaign the studio could do. Now some can take that in a negative sense, but everyone in the country now knows about TDKR. My parents wouldn't have even been able to tell you they knew there was a Batman film being released. Whether good or bad...whether people are curious, turned off or wanting to go to support WB and film now by attending, it is difficult to conjecture and speculate. Like I said, the debate will go on forever now as to how the tragedy affected things. The "Us vs. them" group here will be going at each other for some time and there is no way to establish who is right and who is wrong as to the effect on Box Office. Sad.

That's not an excuse. It's a reality. I was going to see it on friday afternoon with my friends, but a couple of them prefered to wait a few days because of what happened so we went to the Bowling instead.

Seen it,brilliant film.Catwoman was the star.

saw it last night epic movie slow start but then the movie really picks up gritty than the avengers but that movie had more action but the bane batman first encounter is very brutal the only bit i was a let down was when they fight again could have been alot more to that but hats of to chris nolan great trilogy and the superman teaser before the movie very batman begins feel and when we seem him fly dam i got goosebumps DC are going dark for sure.

My friends are not the norm, but do you think they are the only 2 people who felt that way? I'm not saying it won't break the record because of that at all, just that it will make less money that it would have made without the tragedy.

I always thought grossing 200 million was very, very unrealistic. Lack of 3D, lenght, dark themes... I took all my cousins (ages 8-13) to the Avengers. There's no way I'm taking them to TDKR.

It is sad that all these movies are surrounded by tradegy, they are amazing films and will never be able to be looked at as just films but rather wheather or not the events surrounding them affected box office...

I honestly think it's really a great
trilogy in general. But I have a
problem to raise Nolan on a pedestal as many here do. It is a very competent director, but some of the elements that many fans use to praise him I can not see them. For example the story: is told that the plot is wonderful,complex, thought-provoking on the
society we live etc.. But actually was it really necessary to have Nolan to tell us that just a crazy well armed and motivated is enough to send a city into chaos? We really need for Nolan saying that another man just as well armed and motivated can make a difference? Or that each of us is
made up of lights and shadows? Or that there are corrupt politicians and officials and other honest? In these glorifyed plots where is
the element of originality? Where everyone sees the great writing and the complexity of issues, I see only a simple message already clear to everyone before seeing the film, made in the maddeningly over 3 movies. There is nothing wrong with using these arguments, since they are discussed in all forms of art since the dawn of civilization, but so are you really sure that the plot is that complex? If you find these simple concepts in "the Departed" you are like 'uh yeah,good film'. If you find them in a batman movie you are like 'woahhhhh he is a genius!'. At this point I much prefer inception, original story, complex plot required for the subject matter, no moral to be given to anyone. I hope none of you respond to this post by bringing the avengers. I also hope that anyone beginning to utter the word "hate" (IMO BB is by far the best bat-movie ever made, I could watch it every week without getting tired). I've seen
enough idiots to criticize the negative reviews by using that term, or by calling people "marvelites pretending to be batman fans disappointed". And sorry for my 'Italianish' English, i know it's far from perfect :-D

I'm not surprised. The projections are always wrong. They were wrong about the money the Avengers was going to make and they were wrong about Green Lantern.

and @Vegakingblade Really do you think there is any American who has not yet informed about the release? Now sadly it is in every newscast
