BLACK PANTHER: WAKANDA FOREVER Star Angela Bassett Wins Golden Globe For Best Supporting Actress

This year's Golden Globe winners are currently being announced, and Angela Bassett has walked away with a well-deserved Best Supporting Actress award for her performance in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

Angela Bassett has won the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress for her powerful turn as Queen Ramonda in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, making her the first actor in MCU history to walk away with a Globe for a performance in a Marvel Studios movie.

Bassett was up against the following nominees:

Kerry Condon (The Banshees of Inisherin)

Jamie Lee Curtis (Everything Everywhere All at Once)

Dolly De Leon (Triangle of Sadness)

Carey Mulligan (She Said)

Does this give Bassett a better shot at landing an Academy Award nomination? The Golden Globes are often a pretty good indicator of what we can expect from the Oscars, but it's far from a sure thing.

As we know, performances in superhero/comic book films generally don't fare so well with the Academy - though there have been some notable exceptions. Heath Ledger won a posthumous Best Actor award for his take on The Joker in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight, and Joaquin Phoenix followed-suit for his interpretation of the same character in Todd Phillips' Joker.

The winners are still being announced. You can keep an eye on the Golden Globes Twitter account for live updates.
