"Me and Steve Norrington had a cool treatment for that, and when vampires got all this trending again, we thought we should do the adult version, more of like a Scarface Deacon Frost movie. And it sounded cool, this treatment, but then there was so many legal things. Like New Line owned Blade and Marvel's got...all this hype into 'The Avengers' and this group movie which sounds like such a mistake....

Blade was such a '90s thing. I didn't want to do a Blade movie, I just really wanted to take Deacon and do then do a whole other thing which was much more today. So the idea me and Steve had, we might just end up fictionalizing it and just making a new character which might even be better for us. And he's someone I really like and would love to work with again. So hopefully whenever we get a chance we'll get into that."

Norrington just walked away from developing a new Crow film. And personally here I have to say I think Avengers is a great idea, and that I wouldn't really be all that interested in a spin-off

he sounds bitter, because he didn't get his spin off, although he was great as frost IMO

What would I prefer...The Avengers or a Deacon Frost spin-off? Not hard to answer really. It's only the latter which would be "such a mistake". This guy sounds like a total whiner IMO. :)

Yea he sounds bitter or something but I'm not expecting much out of the Avengers.
I think the whole process with the films is too rushed or not thought out well enough from what we can see at the minute.

Thor's trailer lacked the scale I imagined it having, I thought it would have a feel comparable to something like "Gladiator" and "Braveheart".

And Captain America seeeeeems like it lacks a sense of depth, when it could feel like "The Thin Red Line" or "Saving Private Ryan".
And while I like Chris Evans and have come around to supporting him as Cap, the thought of him leading Rob Downey Jnr makes me queasy.

But sure I can't really judge til i see em so i'm hoping they'll be great.

Ibz - 12/22/2010, 2:53 PM
well @FukkMaturity you ALREADY have passed a judgement on this. and do you know what rushed x-men first class is rushed, X3 was rushed, the avengers has been marvel studios goal when they started, so they have been planning this for a long time. its like the GL and thor trailer every ones saying there going to be epic when all 3 of the CBM's could fail as easily, not only because there so different from usual super hero flicks but there going up against already established franchises like pirates and harry potter.

its perfectly fine saying it looks good or bad by the trailer, but to pass a judgement on a movie which hasnt even begun production is a bit silly no offence

Lol Marvel's comicbook movies are never going to be deep meaningful Oscar winning movies... they are comic book summer action flicks..

"Gladiator", "Braveheart", "The Thin Red Line" and "Saving Private Ryan" are on a completely different spectrum to these films... im not saying it wouldnt be cool but its nothing more than a pipe dream.

Ethic - 12/22/2010, 2:58 PM
Ibz, i literally just said that i can't really judge cuz i haven't seem them. That was just my impression so far from what i know.
And are you going to write personally to everyone who sees the trailers and say it's going to be awesome and brilliant and genuis etc?
Ibz
Ibz - 12/22/2010, 3:03 PM
no i didnt say you have to say that all the trailers are good did i, my main problem is how can you have an impression of something when the script hasnt even been finalised. is that a sign of a moving being rushed. if marvel were rushing it they would make the movie now. by the way FUKK not everything is aimed at you i am saying it in general
Ethic
Ethic - 12/22/2010, 3:06 PM
@Paulley
I'm sure when Adam West was Batman people said comic book films would never amount to what they have, and lets not forget that Heath Ledger won an Oscar for his performance in one so these are steps in the right direction.
Ethic
Ethic - 12/22/2010, 3:22 PM
Ibz, my question was are you going to respond to everyone who has a good impression (which is apparently unreasonable seeing as none of it is finalized) or just people who have bad ones?
My criticisms of the Avengers are simply thoughts based on the trailers, artwork, promo shots and behind the scenes footage of the preceding films, nothing more, and I didn't claim any more than that.
And I'm just responding because you mentioned my name.

Dude, of course you can have an impression of it if there is information and such like listed above available for the films. That's why it's called an "impression" it's not the definitive account of it's shitness/greatness.
And i explained my impression based on the trailers i've seen, I never claimed to have detailed knowledge of the films. I'm not saying all signs are pointing to it being shit.
And again, if you have such an issue with me not really liking the direction of things, then surely you should have a problem with people who have made the same leap in assuming it's all fantastic.
Ethic
Ethic - 12/22/2010, 3:27 PM
@Intruder

Lol ya Green Lantern seems rushed in terms of CGI anyway but i hope it's good like i hope all the Marvel ones are great too.

And i only meant rushed in the sense that only Ironman is established at the minute since Hilk is in a mess and the the next 2 films haven't even been released. And the Gladiator/Braveheart comparison was simply the feeling and scope not the time period lol
There is scale in Thor and i hope it comes across well cuz i'd love to see the films do great.
Ethic
Ethic - 12/22/2010, 3:33 PM
Fail on your part, i said "My criticisms of the Avengers are simply thoughts based on the trailers, artwork, promo shots and behind the scenes footage OF THE PRECEDING FILMS." as in Thor and Cap.

Seiously why do people freak out when someone has a differing opinion.
Ibz
Ibz - 12/22/2010, 3:46 PM
@Fukk you gave your opinion and i gave mine, its that simple, am I not allow to disagree with your "impression" of the avengers being "rushed"
Ethic
Ethic - 12/22/2010, 3:53 PM
You are indeed. But if you're going to say i'm unreasonable in my assumption that it might not be great, then by your logic if people assume it will be great then they're also being unreasonable.
Let's not forget i came here and wrote my opinion and you said i'm silly for having that opinion.

r u fawking serious? what a jackass. a deacon spin off?? and it probably wouldn't even be faithful to the comics. he wanted to fictionalize it? and this coming from the guy who thinks avengers is a bad idea. what a moron. but i have to say avengers is a good idea to open the eyes of filmmakers on how to do crossovers minus the recast of Bruce Banner i still say F Mark Buffalo.

Ethic - 12/22/2010, 3:58 PM
Intruder, are you 9? I said i seen several things from 2 films and drew an opinion, end of story.
It's called a different opinion, people actually have different views of the world.
Anyway, i'm done replying, you're just looking for tiny things to pick at without acknowledging the rest of what i said because you don't seem to understand people can have differnet outlooks.
Ciao, feel free to get in the last word and big yourself up kid.

Anyone who says that The Avengers is a BAD idea at this point is just being pessimistic in their approach with a differing opinion. Your opinions obviously cannot stop Marvel and Disney from what they want to do! LMAO!!!

"...More of like a Scarface Deacon frost movie." Are you kidding me Stephen Dorff? Did you say that? lol. Don't get me wrong he was awesome in the BLADE movie but... Deacon Frost is really not an a-list Marvel villain to be considered as such. An idea is an idea and so is an opinion whether fail or success. This equals FAIL sorry.

Faust1973 - 12/24/2010, 2:05 AM
Okay, I don't get on here very often anymore, but I have to come to the guy's rescue, because as is so prevalent in these forums, there's a knee jerk reaction to something someone says within a certain context. You all are busting Dorff's chops for saying that the Avengers is a mistake and are ignoring the ACTUAL wording of what he said---"Marvel's got...all this hype into 'The Avengers' and this group movie which sounds like such a mistake..." What he's saying is that he feels that Marvel is doing nothing but hyping the Avengers franchise and ignoring their other properties and he thinks THAT is the mistake...Deacon is a character that he obviously embraces and it seems like he wants a shot at expanding Frost's universe. He's not saying that the Avengers itself is a mistake. And I agree with him. Warner Brothers doesn't put all their eggs in one basket with DC...they diversify. Give the guy a break.

@fukk - First, change your username, my immediate impression is that you're a moron just because of that. Second, your comments were pretty idiotic with nothing to justify your criticism. There are plenty of things you could be skeptical about, but the things you mention just don't make any sense. We have no idea what kind of depth TFA is going to have!! Also, I have no idea what Thor footage you have see, just like I have no idea if the movie will be any good, but from what I HAVE seen, Asgard looks MASSIVE in scale. That's why we are busting your chops. It was a pretty dumb post and if you have been with the CBM crowd for awhile you should know that this place will eat you alive!

SFCamerica - 12/24/2010, 8:42 PM
Deacon Frost spin off...... Not even worth commenting on. Oh, wait, I just did. Should be in the "worst CBM idea of 2010"! I'd rather go to a movie theater and watch dancing and singing popcorn and candy for 2 hours. Actually, I kind of miss that!
