Russo Brothers On Hawkeye's Scrapped Role In CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER
In an interview promoting the DVD and Blu-ray release of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Joe Russo comments on how much Hawkeye's planned role in the sequel would have changed the movie and also address whether or not Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will impact Captain America 3...
After Jeremy Renner dropped some hints about a role for Hawkeye in Captain America 3, there's been a lot of talk about the fan-favourite archer finally getting the big screen treatment he deserves, with many wishing we'd seen him in Captain America: The Winter Soldier as was the plan at one point early on in production. In a recent interview with Superhero Hype, co-director Joe Russo had this to say about how Clint Barton's inclusion in the critically acclaimed sequel would have changed things. "We had great stuff for him actually in the film," he revealed without getting into specifics. "He had a couple of really cool scenes in the movie. It’s a big movie as it is, so it certainly helped that it’s not in there. I think it would increase the running time by about 10 or 15 minutes if they were in the movie, just because you want the right amount of time to actually treat those scenes properly. I think it was a scheduling issue."
The events of Captain America: The Winter Soldier obviously shook things up for TV series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., but as for whether or not Director Coulson's plans will have an impact on Cap's adventures, Joe added: "We don’t know about that at this point only because it is an evolving process, you know? I’m sure if there’s anything relevant that comes from the show we’ll find out about, but as it stands now Cap 2 is a very SHIELD-centric movie and now that SHIELD is dissolved it’s not as big of a component in Cap 3." So, it sounds as if Captain America 3 will be a very different type of movie now that Cap is working for himself and on the hunt for Bucky! What do you guys think? Be sure to share your thoughts on these comments in the usual place.
