COMICS: First Look At THUNDERBOLTS #2 Sees Red Hulk And Venom Come To Blows

It was inevitable that this team would be just a bit.. dysfunctional, and it seems old Rulk and Flash Thompson will be the first to mix it up. Read on for the cover and some brand new artwork from the second issue of Thunderbolts..

Over at Newsarama Daniel Way discusses the team dynamic in some detail, and reveals that the pink-haired character glimpsed in the first issue is in fact lesser know Hulk villain, Mercy. It seems this extremely powerful lady will also be joining the ranks of the Thunderbolts..

"She's one of those characters that really wasn't all that well defined on the page in her previous appearances, but she has a history with the Hulk and with Ross. On paper it seems like she could literally do anything. She's one of those beings who seems to be limited only by her own mission statement and even that in her case is very vague. She's kind of an angel of death character where if you want to die she's there to make sure it happens.
What's revealed in the character's continuity is that the people she goes after may act like they want to die, but they actually don't. She's a little more concerned with how they seem though, and she's particularly fascinated with the Hulk probably because of his whole inner struggle. Because she's kind of been off the board for awhile Steve and I can realistically change her a bit. We don't have to pick up exactly where she left off. So in the interim she's changed, but not substantially. We've decided that she's more reverted than changed. You'll find out that there's a reason why she's been off the board when she first comes into play."

interior artwork SUCKS, why is red hulk's (I refuse to say 'Rulk' - freaking awful) hand so tiny?

Despite everything (i.e. The Punisher being on a fraggin' team run by a Hulk; and the fact that Ross is hanging out drinking coffee in his Rulk form lol)...IMO the most rediculous part of all this is that they all have color coordinated costumes to match said "Rulk"...

I somewhat enjoyed issue #1, except for the fact that Dillon is drawing PunisherMAX instad of the bearded, scarred recent Rucka version. And while i don't "hate" Dillon's superhero work...his "blood" always looks like ketchup to me

Okay i'm done talking sh!t. We'll see how this goes...

Okay in Dillon's defense, Castle's eye is better in the currently running Warzone mini...

Dpool, well we partially agree on something. I just plain hate Venom and anything to do with that stupid character. Funny thing is I extremely disliked the original "secret wars" starting with the beyonder.

@slyde
yes his eye is fine but he now has a scar across it. that is one of the problems with having this series premiere before war zone finished.

Also if I remember correctly... Venom could transform into street clothes for Peter when they were bonded and I don't believe they were restricted to monochromatic colors... so Venom should be able to switch his colors fairly easily.

I have no problem with Dillon's artwork on certain projects. I was fine with him on his MAX titles and he works well with ground level, more based characters....

He is completely wrong for this series though. You have have Venom, Deadpool, and a Hulk on this squad... things are going to get fantastic and insane. I feel like he draws Red Hulk way too small, he looks like he is about the height of how he drew his Kingpin... he is just a big, beefy guy instead of a monstrosity...

And Venom? When he gets angry his suit devolves into a mass of tendrils and teeth, its something that thrives with an imaginative artist but Dillon is way too rigid to do a good Venom.

I want to love this book so bad but..... It was a serious letdown. Thank god I didn't cancel my subscription to the original thunderbolts which is now dark avengers. Better art, more sensible cast, and fun to boot. I won't give up on this book yet though.

Is this professionally done? Love the cover artwork but man that interior is awful.

I herd similar rumors on Steve Dillon, his Preacher was good, but he shouldn't draw costumed hero's. I was skeptical from other message boards. I bought the book and was surprised, it was decent.

Dillon did draw Frank sort of like Jesse Custer from Preacher at times but overall it was decent. I wish that Frank still had the beard from the Rucka book. Rulk is the wrong proportions in some panels but it's not a deal breaker for me.

According to the March 2013 solicits from Marvel, Phil Noto takes over for the art in issue #7.
