COMICS: Marvel Announces A New DEFENDERS Series Starring The Heroes From The Netflix TV Show

Marvel is launching a brand new comic book series starring Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist, but the creative team...well, if you didn't like a certain event, then you likely won't be happy!

It was teased in the final few pages of Civil War II #8, but it has now been confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter that a new series starring The Defenders is on the way. It won't be set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe but brings the team we'll see on Netflix later this year together in the comic book world. Set to launch in June, we'll get our first glimpse in May during Marvel's Free Comic Book Day offerings.

However, those of you who didn't enjoy Civil War II may be disappointed to learn that Brian Michael Bendis and David Marquez are the creative
team here. The latter's work is often excellent, while Bendis has done great work with these street level superheroes, but they failed to click with that event.

"You will get Jessica Jones looking out her window, street-level, and my return to Daredevil, which will be different than what I and Alex did before," Bendis tells the trade. "And Luke and Danny, characters that I have a strong affinity for. I spent most of the oughts being mocked for the love of Luke Cage. Now that Luke Cage is a household name, I just sit back in my chair and laugh and laugh."

"I wanted to do a sprawling, Godfather-like epic at the street level of the Marvel Universe, really putting out hooks down and creating a modern, elaborate organized crime story that is different than what has gone before, but builds on everything that has happened to these characters, as individuals or as a team, and putting them in the hardest battle for the street that anyone can imagine."

Are you guys looking forward to The Defenders? Let us know your thoughts in the usual place.
