COMICS: That Groundbreaking MARVEL LEGACY Announcement Ended Up Being Totally Underwhelming

Marvel promised an announcement which would change the comics industry forever. Well, it's finally here and it's fair to say that the publisher's plans aren't as groundbreaking as we thought.

According to Marvel Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso, the point of Marvel Legacy is to "present stories that remind everyone — newcomers and longtime fans alike — why Marvel stands as the premier name in fiction." As a result, fans have been speculating that their big announcement could be everything from a light reboot of sorts to the return of the Fantastic Four and the classic lineup of Avengers.

Well, it's nothing of the sort. Marvel has instead debuted a series of covers for a variety of titles which are simply based on iconic covers of the past. Some are also connected to classic tales such as "Return to Planet Hulk" (starring Amadeus Cho rather than Bruce Banner), but for the most part, it's more of the same with many titles just given somewhat familiar names. That really is all there is to this!

The biggest news to come out of yesterday's reveals is the fact that Sam Wilson is returning to the role of The Falcon, while the death of the Jane Foster version of Thor has also been teased. Oh, and the Human Torch and The Thing will star in Marvel Two-In-One. It's possible that more is on the way in regards to what's next for the Marvel Universe, but Marvel Legacy is far from a game changer and doesn't seem to be any different from the various other post-event relaunches where nothing changes.

As a result, if you're after the classic Marvel Universe, you're best off picking up some old trades!
