"Speak ahp!"

Aaron Pierre's US/Detroit accent has been so convincing that a lot of Lanterns fans were surprised to learn that he was actually from the UK, but the actor's British accent did briefly slip out during this past Sunday's fourth episode.

During the scene with Hal Jordan and John Stewart interrogating the man posing as Hector Hammond, Stewart asks, "Who are you?" before slamming his hand on the table and shouting, "Speak up," in a prominent South London accent.

The clip has gone viral on social media, and HBO Max has now joined in on the fun by sharing a fan edit of their own with the caption, "You can take Aaron Pierre out of Croydon, but you can't take the Croydon out of Aaron Pierre."

Pierre hasn't commented on the internet's reaction to the slip, but we're sure he'll see the funny side.

“I immediately recognized the enormity of the opportunity and the gift that it is to engage with, first and foremost, this character and this world. And being the first live-action [John Stewart] is also something that I recognize the magnitude of,” Pierre said of landing the role in a recent interview with THR. “So it was very nerve-wracking, but I have a history and a habit of intentionally seeking out things that unnerve me.”

Did you pick up on Pierre's accent slip while watching the episode? Let us know in the comments.

HBO in association with Warner Bros. Television and DC Studios. The pilot episode is co-written by Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King, who are co-creators for the series. The series is executive produced by Mundy, Lindelof, James Gunn, Peter Safran, King, Ron Schmidt, and Hawes. Based on the DC comic characters from Green Lantern.

The series stars Kyle Chandler, Aaron Pierre, Kelly Macdonald, Garret Dillahunt, Poorna Jagannathan, Laura Linney, Jason Ritter, Ulrich Thomsen, Nathan Fillion, J. Alphonse Nicholson, and Jasmine Cephas Jones.

The series follows new recruit John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) and Lantern legend Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler), two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.

I know we still have half of the show left but I still don’t want it to end.

Haha I imagine he’s not very proud of that, given that’s quite the faux pas as an actor. I hope he can see the humor in it

That’s funny.

On another note , it was nice to see more of John’s personality last episode such as some of his banter with Hal where they seemed to genuinely be bonding a bit until the end or the moment highlighted above of “Hector Hammond” threatening to kill John’s parents (because while they might be “crazy” , he does still love them) where we see his anger…

I especially appreciate seeing him outsmarting the two dudes in the gun shop and continuing to show how smart he is aswell.

Accent slip aside , Aaron’s did a great job portraying the stoic , calm and reserved nature of John well but also these other sides too that round John out as a person so kudos to him and I can’t wait to see him in MOT hopefully interacting with David’s Superman & Milly’s Kara etc!!.

@Irregular - Fassbender's was way more noticeable though... he basically just played Magneto as Irish for the last 10 mins of the movie.

Green replacement Lantern.

If the show stood alone with no comics connections, it is good.

As an adaptation that should respect the iconic comics source material, it’s a giant piece of sh!t.
