Marvel Comics Reveals First Look At ULTIMATE DAREDEVIL (And A Bold New Take On The "DD" Logo)

We've known for a while now that Ultimate Daredevil will debut in this December's Ultimate Universe: Two Years In #1, and a first look at Earth-6160's take on the Man Without Fear has finally been revealed.

Thanks to AIPT, we now know that Daredevil will be a cosmic hero, recruited by the Guardians of the Galaxy. Whether that means Matt Murdock is no longer beneath the mask isn't clear, but Deniz Camp will be writing the story (one of five) with artwork by Javier Pulido.

The rest will be illustrated by Patrick Boutin, Phil Noto, Francesco Manna, and Lee Ferguson, and with the Ultimate Universe now confirmed to be nearing its end, these—and any introductions—are only going to set up what plays out in Ultimate Endgame (and not a new wave of stories).

Marvel Comics considered keeping the Ultimate Universe around, with a Guardians of the Galaxy series among those considered for its third year. Instead, the line will end in 2026.

In a brief statement shared with the site, Camp said, "Javier Pulido did such a beautiful job with the character and the story. Alex and I are both over the moon with it. I hope readers will be, too!"

Joining those remarks are Giuseppe Camuncoli's Ultimate Universe: Two Years In #1 variant cover featuring Daredevil, one of Pulido's interior pages, and a design sheet. As you can see, the "DD" logo has undergone quite a drastic reinvention, though the costume itself is instantly recognisable as Daredevil's.

As a reminder, here's what to expect from Ultimate Endgame, the Ultimate Universe's send-off:

The moment that has been building since the beginning of the new Ultimate Universe! Spinning out of Deniz Camp and Juan Frigeri’s ULTIMATES comes the culmination of ULTIMATE INVASION... Two (thousand) years have passed in the Ultimate Universe, but inside the City, the Maker has had thousands of years to prepare for his return! With the barrier around the City finally gone, heroes all across the Ultimate Universe must mobilize to defeat the Maker before it’s game over. For everyone. Meanwhile, the rest of the world wages World War III...

What do you think about the Ultimate Universe's take on Daredevil?

The logo is fine, whatever, but the open collar and neck and the long hair? Looks ridiculous.

@SummersEssex - And (for the cover at least) drawing him with the muscle-bound physique of Thor really doesn't lend itself to being nimble, athletic and flexible. 🤨

At this point these comic companies are more interested in getting social media reactions than telling good stories.

Beyond being a bad design, this is also just bad artwork. This looks 10x worse than the garbage “daredevil takes on the evil nicotine demon” comic that the DARE program handed out when I was in grade school.

This looks and sounds horrible in every way. Like they are turning DD into Nova or something. Why call it Daredevil if they are going to take away every single thing that makes the character Daredevil?

@DocSpock - DD is the prototypical "street level" hero. I get it if they want to inject a radical element to shake things up but, DD going "cosmic" just doesn't make narrative sense in any shape, manner, way or form. I guess they are liberally defining "Ultimate" as anything-goes as far as reinterpretations are concerned. 🙄

This is appalling. Who ever gave this redesign the thumbs up is an idiot and the artwork is pish.

What’s that on his chest, are those sideways D’s?!?! This looks to be the Ultimate Universe’s first misfire! Looks like it belongs more in DC’s Absolute Universe.
