Last year, we got word that Warner Bros. Animation and DC Studios were developing an adult animated series based on the acclaimed Mr. Miracle comic book by Tom King and Mitch Gerads, and unlike several other DCU projects, the show is still moving forward.

According to the official synopsis: "The series follows Scott Free, known worldwide as Mister Miracle, the greatest escape artist who ever lived. With his wife, Big Barda, Scott seemed to have built the perfect life on Earth, until everything began to unravel. As war erupts between the planets Apocalypse and New Genesis, Scott’s adoptive father, Darkseid, has apparently obtained the Anti-Life Equation, a devastating force capable of dominating the universe. With carnage escalating on both sides, Mister Miracle becomes the last hope to end the conflict and restore peace. But the power of the Anti-Life Equation might already be affecting Scott’s mind, distorting his reality and threatening the happiness he shares with Barda."

The show's main voice cast has yet to be announced, but we now have word that Nathan Fillion will return to voice Guy Gardner after previously appearing as the dickish Green Lantern in Superman and Peacemaker Season 2. He will also feature in HBO's Lanterns.

“We brought Nathan into Mister Miracle’s show, and doing that, it’s just so wonderful," King tells EW. "He brings that energy to every aspect of it. And you would think it would be different tonally from [Lanterns], but it blends because that’s who Guy is. He’s that guy who is over the top. We all know that guy who’s a little bit like that.”

Nexus Point News recently shared some character breakdowns which reveal the heroes and villains that will be joining Free, Barda and Darkseid in the series.

Darkseid is described as "the physical manifestation of all evil in the universe. He speaks in a silly, over-the-top manner which is balanced with his calm, but confident demeanour."

Funky Flashman will also feature, and reportedly serves "as a narrator in certain scenes, and his Stan Lee inspiration is very prevalent in this adaptation of the character. Described as a snake oil salesman, he’s very articulate with his words and knows how to sell a product.

Lightray is said to be "very loyal to Highfather and Orion. He considers himself superior to Scott and Barda and sees himself as too good for the missions assigned to him by Highfather."

Highfather "is the all-knowing leader of New Genesis who has trouble connecting with the other New Gods due to his status and power, especially Scott who has resented him since childhood for his decision to give him up to Darkseid."

Finally, Orion, the son of Darkseid, is said to "carry his father’s anger, sins, and ambition, but has repressed it since childhood since being raised by Highfather. Orion will serve as a mentor to Scott in the series."

There's no mention of Granny Goodness, but we would be very surprised if she didn't put in an appearance at some point.

Other animated projects currently in the pipeline - Starfire!, My Adventures with Green Lantern, DC Super Powers and the Dynamic Duo movie - are expected to be Elseworlds tales, but James Gunn has confirmed that Mr. Miracle will be set in the DCU.

The DCU is DOA and Spider-Man has officially turned the MEMBERBERRYVERSE into the only game in town.

WB needs to fast track a [frick]ing Batman movie STAT or they are well and truly [frick]ed.

The Reeves EMOVERSE Batman ain't gonna make Spider-Man Money unless they toss some MEMBERBERRIES in that mother[frick]er.

Superman sequel isn't going to do dick at the box office - after Supergirl took a Superdump, The House of El has burned to the ground.

So we'll continue to have Guy but no Hal. Great.

Guessing he will take Blue Beetle's place in the story since Ted Kord doesn't exist in this world? It's a major loss, as Kord's comic history with Booster and Scott is a major reason why he even shows up, but they already have to introduce so many characters that a 2nd Beetle might have been too much.

He does fit the tone of the series best out of the 3 GL's so it's an easy fit.

@1stDalek - i could see it…

I honestly didn’t think of Scott and Guy already having history but makes sense in a world that already has had and is aware of superheroes , aliens etc!!.

Cool…

Honestly , who would have thought that Fillion’s Guy would be such a recurring presence in the DCU but I’m glad to have it be the case nonetheless since i have enjoyed this version of the character so far.

Anyway , looking forward to seeing him in Lanterns & now Mister Miracle which I’m intrigued in tbh!!.

This is great! I love that New Genesis and Apocolypse are being explored. That's good stuff and widens the scope of the DCU.

I absolutely love James Gunn and it was a certainty we were getting some amazing things from the new DCU. But what the hell is going on? I guess if im drinking from the marvel kool-aid and judging this based off of their own formula. James hasn’t really established a “face” like Iron Man did with Marvel. It was supposed to be Superman but is definitely starting to feel like Guy Gardner/Green Lantern. Even though we’re getting two of Green Lanterns come Sunday, our focus still seems “mainly” on Guy, especially when it’s R-Rated and Vulgar. On paper it looks sound, but realistically it’s not really setting up who I thought would’ve been the main leads. Especially Superman. The underdogs, the one offs and the villains are becoming the highlight of this universe and the many shows and Movies Gunn has thought of to intertwine with one another, which seems to all be happening with Guy instead of Clark.
