If You Hate the ‘Worst Fan Casts’, Then You’ll REALLY Hate This

Just a little reminder and life lesson for all you guys out there who are so opposed to original material on the internet…

Editorial Opinion

First of all, it should be pretty simple: if you have no interest in reading an article on the internet, then don’t read it. For instance, people have said that the ‘Worst Fan Casts’ are a waste of time. Basically saying that it contributes nothing to comicbookmovie.com. What you don’t seem to realize, is that when you go online and bitch and moan about things on the internet, that is an even BIGGER waste of time.

Why? Because the way that opinions work, you see, is that some will go one way and some will go another way. Some like it, some don’t. Some say yes, some say no. Some are ‘thumbs up’ and some are ‘thumbs down.’ The fact of the matter is, there are those who are entertained by my ‘Worst Fan Casts’. And to me, that’s all that matters. Why would you want to purposely put yourself in the position of reading something that you know you are not going to like anyways? Case in point: if everything you’re reading right now is directed at you, then you’ve clicked on a link that was LITERALLY Headlined in saying that you are not going to like what you are about to read. Why did you click on this Editorial? Do you have nothing better to do than sit around and complain on the internet? Be productive with your life!

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a jerk. And I’m not a cry baby. I'm not some little...(you know what I mean) who is upset that people don't like his articles. I'm writing this on behalf of everyone who DOESN'T spend all their time complaining and causing trouble on the internet. We're tired of mindless, immature and juvenile comments on message boards on YouTube, Fan Forums and even here at comicbookmovie.com

So if someone doesn’t like my work, awesome. I’m a stand-up comedian when I’m not lecturing you on comicbookmovie.com about freedom of speech. So I can take criticism. And if people are getting tired of the Spoof Casts, then fine. Because the fact is, I am too…for now. In fact, in my latest Spoof Cast, I even said in the Teaser portion of the Headline that it would be the last one for a while. Yet still, people found it necessary to tell me to stop. I am for now, but not because I was told to. And just to warn the ‘haters’, something in the vein of another Spoof Cast will probably come up in my imagination somewhere down the line. And because there are those who enjoy them, I’ll publish it on this web site. And if you don’t like, too bad.

Everything I am saying and this whole general idea goes for just about everything on the internet, not just the Fan Fic section on this particular web site. The internet is public domain. People will post materials that not everyone will agree with. The benefit of this particular situation however is that you have the OPTION of reading said material. Once again, if you don’t like it, don’t read it. Simple. And yes of course you have just as much right to complain as I do to publish material that you’re going to complain about. The only difference is…not only is it a complete waste of MY time and the time of people who enjoy my work…but it is even a BIGGER waste of time on YOUR end. Think of all the things you could’ve done in the time it took to complain…

So in closing, if you are an Editor for comicbookmovie.com, I urge you not to delete this article. If people seriously take what I’ve said into consideration, then that would be quite beneficial to this web site. And if you’re just the average whiner on the internet, hopefully this hasn’t been a ‘complete waste of time’ for you.

Chris.

I don't understand why you're speaking for a group of people who haven't elected you to. I don't care about the 'worst fan casts' but the majority of CBMers do and seeing as CBM is an Amercian website I think the view of the many outweighs the view of the few. And I do see why there are so many haters. It took a long time for the whole fancast movement to be taken seriously and these worst casts only trivilalize their efforts. You're really punishing what they've tried hard to build all for the sake of a joke. Sure you have freedom of speech but doing what you'redoing is making you, as you claim not to be, 'a jerk'.

Did you even read what I said? I don't have a problem with your casts, and I even liked the John Cena thing, but whether you like it or not those casts make a joke out of the whole fancasting process. I think you're failing to see it from the other side of the argument, sure it's good for a gigggle but if it catches on it could lead to CBM having to stop fan casting all together. And seeing as you are a comedian, and learned person, I'm sure you could find more ways to comediacally entertain then with joke fan casts. The only time a fan cast like yours would be suitable would be around the holidays or april fools. I'm sure you could write an entertaining story that was humerous invovling comic book characters. I'd suggest stopping the casts because you seemed worried about ridicule but you're really bringing it on yourself. You don't want to be the new supermike.

lol, I think you all read too much into things.

Boekelaar, I was on this site and part of the events that led to Fan Fic garnering it's own section. Folks like me, Shaman, Hawk, Joslezio (and many, many others) are the ones who launched it. Now, I think I can speak for my fellows in saying I feel like Chris has caused no harm whatsoever. I do appreciate your standing for us though ;)

Chris, I can answer the main focus of this editorial for you I believe... because people are assholes for the most part. I too find in genuinely odd that people will even elect to read an article they know they despise immediately from the headline. It's be like me reading a Superman article, no point, cause I hate Supes and would have nothing good to say. So instead of alienating my fellow CBMer's, I just avoid articles pertaining to him. For the most part, I envision these trolls as being either A) young, immature kids (literally, as in 80% of them are most likely under 20) or B) a terribly lonely fanboy whose entire sphere of control only extends to fictional worlds and digital environs... or even C) Just plain over opinionated. To be honest it's shit like this that I've basically reverted back to shadow status on this site, that and the fact that it seems nobody can just shut the [frick] up and enjoy a movie (or in this case a fancasting).

@ chris

so basically, you just wrote an entire article complaining about complainers, lol. :)

i'm kidding man, kidding.

i agree with a lot of what you said.

the only thing is, with an article like this, that gives people a heads up that they won't like it, then sure, they're pretty dumb for reading it and being surprised that it didn't interest them.

unfortunately, most articles don't give us that heads up. so people don't know if they'll like something UNTIL they read it. unless its about a comic character, show, or movie that they already hate. thats the exception. otherwise, saying people shouldn't read something they don't like, doesn't always mean anything, because you can't know someone's opinion without reading it. lol

I second @teas comment
I think that the worst fan casts are getting a bit annoying, they are good for a one time kind of thing. i mean making a fancast that you make purposefully horrible is a kinda stupid thing to do. I remember when i think it was @HAWK that made an editorial about fan fic becoming a joke and the people that work hard to make fancasts and stories getting bumped down by jokes, like your worst fancasts. What is the point in making something where you pretty much say people wont like it and then get sensitive about them not liking it?

teabag, too right mate ;)

soperman, I don't think this falls into the same context. Hawks article pertained more to the lack of organization, lazy composition, and just outright flooding of fanfics lacking in quality. This is nothing more than parody, which is a form of imitation, which itself is the best form of flattery ;)
