A TRUE BLOOD Musical Is In The Works

True Blood may be getting the true death after the seventh season, but that doesn't mean we wont' see any more supernatural antics in Bon Temps. If composer Nathan Barr has his way, a musical version of the show could take shape.

HBO's popular series True Blood is coming to an end, after the seventh and final season airs on June 22nd. However, according to composer Nathan Barr, that may not be the last we see of Sookie Stackhouse and the supernatural craziness of Bon Temps, Louisiana.

Barr says that he's working on a True Blood musical, which he recently pitched to HBO and series creator Alan Ball (with the help of star Stephen Moyer, who showed his musical chops in last year's The Sound of Music telecast on NBC).

The musical will still center on Sookie Stackhouse, though he's finding that condensing seven years' worth of twists and turns has been a particular challenge. However, he hopes to "return to the roots of the show." So, less Fairy Godmothers and more bloodthirsty vampires? Sounds good!

Ball says there are no guarantees to the musical actually happening, but is hoping to get a workshop of the version ready within a year that he can pitch to the network. "There's no guarantees, but I think the direction we're heading in is really exciting."

True Blood airs on HBO on Sunday nights. Season seven premieres on Sunday, June 22nd.
