Max Landis is writing a screenplay based on the classic monster tale for 20th Century Fox. Davis Entertainment is attached to produce the untitled pic, which Fox will distribute.

From Variety:

"No director is attached as of right now, although studio is eyeing several high-profile helmers including Paul Greengrass and David Yates. Ron Howard had been circling the project, but it appears he's out, given that The Dark Tower is still up in the air and that he's in early talks for Formula 1 biopic Rush.

There are couple of Frankenstein movies in the works at the moment, so we'll see what are studios plans for this project.

"FOX???? FOX???? WHAT???? NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! This is a UNIVERSAL CHARACTER!!!! WTF??????"

Come on, you don't have to ruin another classic. You already did that with The Wolfman

Can't we all just settle with the Kenneth Branagh version of the story.
It is closet to the original story as possible, and it recieved good reviews; why not just leave that as the last Frakenstein remake.

@CaptainDC
I don't think Fox did The Wolfman, I believe that was Universial.

<---- I just might have an interest in this - as in - LEAVE IT WELL ALONE!!! Everything FOX touches is DIRE, SOULLESS, MISUNDERSTOOD, GARBAGE! Even De Niro's performance was a shadow of Karloff's in the most recent adaptation. But here's ONE idea: make the actor playing Dr Frankenstein be the same actor playing his creation. Then, just then, you MIGHT understand the original novel!!!!

GUILLERMO DEL TORO'S VERSION OF FRANKENSTIEN:

"In accordance with Mary Shelley's description, the head appeared to have been stolen from a cadaver: there was exposed sinew around the jaw, and the cheekbones looked ready to poke through the scrim of flesh. Most appallingly, the Creature lacked a nose; a single bridge bone protruded over an oval breathing hole. [The artist] had been etching deep furrows into the Creature's forehead, and shaved bits of clay were scattered on his desk, like clippings on a barbershop floor."

@BillyBatson

That was kind of what they did with the West End play version that came out this year with Johnny Lee Millar and Benedict Cumberbatch.

During the performance from scene to scene they would swap roles. One being the Doctor then the next the monster.

I hope they mean by "classic", the universal picture version from the 1930's.
I want that flatop "classic" but I'm doubting Universal would allow fox it's baby.

better be better than the one in the 90s. Bobby Deniro is an awesome actor, but it was kinda silly to see him as the Frankenstein monster haha...im gonna reserve judgement on this one

to anyone opposed to this, the original frankenstien is just as good and treasured w/ a remake in the works, so calm urselves. And Del Toro is supposed to be doing this film w/ universal I thought? Idk how the rights workto films based upon books, but in the Comic book world that doesnt fly so why here? Is that the difference in calling it "mary shelly's frankenstein" rather than just frankenstein?

Hope they make it good. I love the Frankenstein mythos and we really need a rest from the Vampire and Zombie genres. Don't get me wrong, I love 'em both, but too much of a good thing.
