Avengers: Doomsday: Gambit Hot Toys Figure Spotlights Channing Tatum's Ragin' Cajun

Hot Toys has revealed another Avengers: Doomsday figure, this time offering a much closer look at Channing Tatum's Gambit as the actor reprises his Deadpool & Wolverine role to join the X-Men.

Channing Tatum was supposed to play the title character in a Gambit movie originally scheduled for release in 2016. The movie was greenlit after X-Men franchise producer Lauren Shuler Donner learned that the actor was a fan of the character, but it never got off the ground.

Multiple creative teams later attempted to figure it out, and by the time Gambit started taking shape, the Disney/Fox merger happened. With that, the plug was pulled on several Marvel projects.

Miraculously, Tatum was given another shot at Remy LeBeau in the MCU when Ryan Reynolds enlisted him to play the hero in 2024's Deadpool & Wolverine. While that version of Gambit was a mostly comedic figure—a result of his strong Cajun accent—he was still a badass.

Tatum will join the X-Men in this December's Avengers: Doomsday, and Hot Toys has revealed two 1/6th scale figures based on the character. They're largely identical, though the deluxe version includes a base featuring a Sentinel that's clearly been destroyed by Gambit's kinetic energy powers.

Hot Toys previously teased plans for a Gambit figure based on the Deadpool threequel, but it's seemingly been abandoned in preference for this version.

We don't fully know what to expect from Gambit in the next Avengers movie, though he is expected to be treated a little more seriously after he was shown squaring off with Shang-Chi in the first Doomsday trailer.

"I’m not gonna go full Cajun," Tatum previously revealed. "[Joe and Anthony Russo] want things to be funny, but they don’t want to go full 'Deadpool.' They want to keep the drama and keep it tight. When Gambit gets serious — when he drops the Mardi Gras mask — things do matter."

Check out these new Hot Toys figures for Avengers: Doomsday's Gambit in the Instagram galleries below.

Today, Hot Toys is beyond thrilled to deal fans the ultimate winning hand with the 1/6th scale Gambit Collectible Figure. This figure features a newly crafted head sculpt equipped with separate rolling eyeballs. His eyes have been applied with a UV luminous reflective effect to capture his signature kinetic glow. The newly tailored costume features a leather-like microfiber material trench coat for dramatic posing, a weathered dark purple chest armor with silver line patterns, a pair of black pants with purple stripes, and weathered silver knee-high soft vinyl material armored boots.

Ready to deal some serious damage, Gambit comes fully equipped with two bōstaves—one regular and one in a kinetic energy release state—and a staggering array of translucent purple kinetic energy effects. Collectors can dynamically recreate his explosive combat style using attachable energy swipe effects, kinetically charged playing cards with trailing and curved effects, energy charging playing card effects, and even interchangeable fingers with elevated cards for the opened left hand. The figure also includes sixth-scale and life-size black-and-gold plastic playing cards, along with a specially designed figure stand. Furthermore, a Special Edition available in selected markets will include a Commemorative Life-Size Metal Ring as an exclusive bonus accessory.

Honest question, why people wanted Tatum to be Gambit? I mean the fans, it was an old request, no? Does he have an accent or anything like that, which justifies it?

I mean, he's likeable and all but looks-wise he doesn't sell what classic Jim Lee Gambit was like, IMO.

I'll admit, he isn't as terrible as Gambit as I was positive he would be. Still super duper [frick]in miscast. But he's ok I guess. I'm trying to imagine him making out with Anna Paquin... Just doesn't feel right, but she wasn't a great Rogue either.

@TheAmericanHero - the sad part is that anna paquin would be perfect as rogue and she proved it season after season in true blood.

Gambit is just a lame ass character imo.
If they wanted to include a lesser known X-Man, why not pick Longshot?
At least his luck powers and relation to Mojo are interesting.

@comicfan100 - Here at Comic book movies, The current generation of "fans" are by birth haters or any and all things comics and the movies that follow them while also frequently refreshing comic book websites. It's an odd way of behaving but they get a kick out of it.

I just think he's lame and I think there's lots of fans who feel the same way.
