The second in a trilogy of films adapting the enduringly popular masterpiece The Hobbit, by J.R.R. Tolkien, "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" continues the adventure of the title character Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) as he journeys with the Wizard Gandalf (Ian McKellen) and thirteen Dwarves, led by Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage) on an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor.

Thranduil looks awesome. I personally found An Unexpected Journey disappointing, but I expect Desolation of Smaug to be the best of the three, and I hope that it makes me happier.

@Humperdink - If they had just stuck to the Hobbit book more directly, it would not feel so much like more of the same. Granted, the story structure of the Hobbit is in the early stages similar to Lord of the Rings, but the tone is very different. However, Jackson appears to be trying to mimic the same tone (and running time) as LotR.
