It's hard to imagine anyone other than James Gunn being in charge of the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise (which is why there was so much backlash when it didn't look like he would be back for Vol. 3), but would you believe that Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow very nearly boarded the Marvel Cinematic Universe with that movie?

Now, though, he's revealed why he knew he wasn't the right man for the job.

"I met on Guardians of the Galaxy long, long ago," the filmmaker revealed. "Yeah, very early. It was a great conversation."As for why it didn't work, he added: "I was not a comic book kid. That wasn’t my thing. I was a Star Wars kid, an Indiana Jones kid, a Spielberg kid – that was my thing."

"It was a great conversation, but a little bit more of a personal understanding of, you need someone who loved this growing up. [They] should be the ones directing these movies. You’ve gotta live and breathe it in the way that I did Jurassic and these films that I get to be involved in now."

Trevorrow is expected to take the helm of the next Jurassic World movie and was going to direct Star Wars Episode IX before creative differences led to him parting ways with Disney and Lucasfilm.

Do you guys think he would have been a good fit for Guardians of the Galaxy
