Paramount Television is teaming up with Jessica Biel and her Iron Ocean Productions banner to bring a gritty, neo-western vampire series to the small screen.
Biel will produce the project alongside her long-time production partner, Michelle Purple.
The upcoming show adapts Keith Rosson’s 2025 horror novel Coffin Moon, a story often pitched as True Grit but with a supernatural twist.
The book has already built up some serious buzz, earning nominations for a Goodreads Choice Award in Horror and scoring an Audie Award finalist spot for its audiobook edition.
Stephen King previously sang the book's praises, writing on social media, "This is mind-blowingly good. A horror novel that will keep you awake long after you turn the last page."
Noah Harpster and Micah Fitzerman-Blue (Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, Painkiller) have come aboard to write the adaptation and act as showrunners, with Rosson staying involved as a consultant.
Since the project is still in its early stages, there's no word yet on casting or a production timeline. That said, don't expect to see Biel on screen, for now at least, as initial reports state that she's staying strictly behind the camera as an executive producer.
Per Amazon, the official synopsis for the Coffin Moon novella reads, "It's the winter of 1975, and Portland, Oregon, is all sleet and neon. Duane Minor is back home after a tour in Vietnam, a bartender just trying to stay sober; save his marriage with his wife, Heidi; and connect with his thirteen-year-old niece, Julia, now that he's responsible for raising her. Things aren't easy, but Minor is scraping by.
Then a vampire walks into his bar and ruins his life.
When Minor crosses John Varley, a killer who sleeps during the day beneath loose drifts of earth and grows teeth in the light of the moon, Varley brutally retaliates by murdering Heidi, leaving Minor broken with guilt and Julia filled with rage. What's left of their splintered family is united by only one desire: vengeance.
So begins a furious, frenzied pursuit across the Pacific Northwest and beyond. The novel also appeared on Vulture's list of the best books of 2025, where the site wrote, "There is as much of Easy Rider or The Deer Hunter as there is Nosferatu in the blue-collar, countercultural world the characters move through, hell-bent on revenge at all costs. Unabashedly masculine and reveling in (un)righteous violence, it reads like a Tom Waits song written for Halloween, or Nick Cave at his most bloody-minded. "
