Michael Bay Will Only Direct LOBO For Warner Bros. If The Massive $200 Million Budget Is Slashed
Yesterday evening, we heard that Michael Bay is considering taking the helm of Lobo for Warner Bros. and a new report points to the filmmaker only directing if the massive budget is slashed by the studio.
I think it's fair to say we were all shocked by the news that Transformers director Michael Bay might make the leap to the world of superheroes with Lobo but now The Hollywood Reporter has cleared things up a little. While both the filmmaker and Warner Bros. have shown interest in him taking charge of the DC adaptation, there are no talks, no offers, and "a dance between the two" has only just begun.
Apparently, Bay's decision could hinge on the current rewrite which is being down by Wonder Woman scribe Jason Fuchs. As things currently stand, Lobo looks set to be a tentpole with a budget of well over $200 million, a figure which Warner Bros. isn't happy with (no great surprise after Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League), and one which has caused Bay to lose some interest as a result.
He wants Lobo to be scaled down (really) and that's what the aforementioned rewrite is for. It's going to hopefully scale down the project while still keeping Bay's involvement. It's clearly still very early days then and it's going to be interesting seeing whether or not all these pieces ultimately fall into place. Would you like to see Bay take charge of this movie?
