Star Wars alum Daisy Ridley is set to embark on another sci-fi adventure, this time to the lost city of Atlantis.

According to multiple trade reports, Ridley has signed on to lead a reimagining of Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea for Paramount+. Akiva Goldsman (A Beautiful Mind) is set to write and executive produce the series, while Matt Shakman (WandaVision) is on board as director and executive producer.

The original Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea was a 1961 sci-fi disaster movie, which led to a popular 1964 series that ran for four seasons.

In the series, Ridley plays Lee Crane, “who is pulled into a classified government program after a catastrophic Arctic expedition claims the life of her twin sister. At the center of the program is the USS Seaview, a retro-futuristic submarine found entombed in the ice, marked with symbols from a history that shouldn’t exist, and it powers up only when Lee steps aboard. Thrust into command of a pressure-cooker crew and an uneasy alliance with government power brokers, Lee leads Seaview on daring undersea missions to contain mysterious forces leaking into our world, all while uncovering a hidden truth about the oceans, an erased chapter of human history and the once-thought mythical city of Atlantis.”

Is Ridley still set to return to the Galaxy Far, Far Away?

In a recent interview with Collider, the actress shared an update on her return as Rey "Skywalker" in Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy's Star Wars: New Jedi Order (likely not the final title).

"I certainly have been very involved. I’m involved in, well, not very involved, but I’m involved in as much as I know what’s going on, I know the story, I know what’s going on with the script, so I’m aware of all that. And I think what’s been really wonderful over the last few years is being more involved from the start to finish, really coming to set knowing this is the absolute best way we can tell this story. These are the best actors for the job. This is the best crew for the job. Having that confidence is so lovely. And it’s not that I didn’t have that before, but I’m much more cognizant of it now. So in that way, I’m looking forward to turning up, really knowing the ins and outs of what the journey has been, and we’re arriving at the absolute best place to tell this particular story.”

We recently got word that George Nolfi, known for his work on movies such as The Bourne Ultimatum and Ocean’s 12, has been enlisted to write the movie. Nolfi is just the latest writer to take a crack at the script, as Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson were initially hired to develop the story prior to Obaid-Chinoy signing on. Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight took the next pass, but stepped away last year.

Since then, there have been rumors that the project has been shelved, but the trades seem to believe that it has simply been placed on the back burner and will still move forward at some point.

For a second it read like Ridley was gonna lead a reimagining of Star Wars and I thought "another after Obaid-Chinoy and Watts!?"

Anyway, sounds fun

This actress got a lot of crap. People were very unfair to her. She didn't write or direct those movies. She came in and did her job. Is she the best actress? Nah. Far from the worst though. Also I always felt she was very charming in interviews. She didn't come off as fake, overly political or preachy.

@DarthOmega - I adore her. She showed up and did the best she could. She also has some solid movies under her belt.

As a little kid watching Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea after school, I often thought 'This is dogshit. It needs Admiral Mary Sue at the helm so it's more believable'
