Rumor: Marvel Developing Intriguing New Special Presentation And True Detective-Style Series

Though we don't have much to go on, a new rumor claims that Marvel Television is developing at least one new Special Presentation, and/or a True Detective-style procedural show...

Recent reports have indicated that Marvel Studios may be scaling back its small-screen output (the cancellation of Wonder Man after the popular series was already renewed for a second season would appear to confirm that there was something to this), but it seems there are still a few new Disney+ projects on the way.

Jeff Sneider shared an intriquing rumor about a potential Special Presentation during this week's episode of The Hot Mic.

“I had heard that there’s something that's going to be filming in February. I heard that the code name was like the Ahmmed Stone or the Amit Stone, or something."

Sneider didn't focus too much on the show's working title (it may not mean very much, after all), but it has garnered the attention of comic book fans. Ahmet Abdol was the name of the character who would eventually be known as the Living Monolith, a mutant with vast cosmic power who debuted in the pages of the X-Men.

While we don't necessarily see Marvel developing a Special Presentation specifically focusing on this villain, he could be part of a broader story involving Scott and Alex Summers (Havok), and possibly Mr. Sinister.

Sneider has also heard about a new True Detective-style series, described to him as a "procedural." He didn't share any other details, but the Marvel Comics universe isn't really brimming with street-level investigators, so there's a chance this could be the Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) show we've previously heard about.

With Luke Cage (Mike Colter) and Iron Fist (Finn Jones) back in the picture, this project could serve as an Alias Investigations/Heroes for Hire procedural, and may also open the door for the return of the Daughters of the Dragon, Misty Knight (Simone Missick) and Colleen Wing (Jessica Henwick).

This is all pure speculation, of course, but if one or both of these projects are indeed in the pipeline, we should get some official updates fairly soon.

Marvel's head of television and streaming, Brad Winderbaum, was asked about the future of the Special Presentations following The Punisher: One Last Kill during a recent interview.

“Special Presentations are always fun… I just love that. That’s an opportunity. [If] someone can have a crazy idea and we can develop it as a special presentation, [it] is [a] huge opportunity for us.”

A spin-off of a show (Daredevil Born Again) that isn't really picking up any ratings? Really?

@WaffeX - Never even considered this... with the Mutant Saga coming up, it's a possibility.

"DC Studios has said from the start that Lanterns would be more True Detective than Guardians of the Galaxy, but seeing that in action proved largely disappointing. The sneak peek showed Hal Jordan taking flight and at least teased a Green Lantern power battery and Ch'p, but cosmic action likely won't be part of this story."

"Lanterns has been a particularly intriguing project to look forward to, given its True Detective influences and more serious tone compared to previous DCU installments like Superman and Peacemaker."

"We have a few other Lanterns peppered in there but this is really a terrestrial based TV show which is almost like True Detective with a couple of Green Lanterns who are space cops watching over Precinct Earth in it they discover a terrifying mystery that ties into our largest story of the DCU."

These dumb [frick]ing morons are still doing 100 projects a year. When the reboot comes, hopefully Feige says goodbye.

Reboot the MCU and DCU

@FireGunn - Well yesterday there was an article saying a lot less live action tv shows and maybe more animated shows. Tomorrow they'll have more that we say Marvel is doing sock puppet Avengers.
