It's been confirmed this morning that Rob Reiner, acclaimed actor, director, producer, and screenwriter, passed away on December 14, in his Brentwood, California home. The filmmaker was found alongside his wife Michele Singer Reiner, 68.

The son of comedian, actor, and director Carl Reiner and actress Estelle Reiner, Reiner attended UCLA Film School and began his career writing for The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour. His big break came as Michael "Meathead" Stivic on the CBS sitcom All in the Family, for which he earned two Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series.

Later transitioning to directing, Reiner helmed classics like This Is Spinal Tap (1984), Stand by Me (1986), The Princess Bride (1987), Misery (1990), and A Few Good Men (1992).

In recent years, he stepped back in front of the camera for projects such as The Wolf of Wall Street, New Girl, and The Bear. The couple met on the set of 1989's When Harry Met Sally..., which Rob also directed.

A spokesperson for the Reiner family has said, "It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner. We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time."

Shortly after the news of Rob and Michele's death broke, reports began to surface about them being found with stab wounds.

Now, PEOPLE is reporting that they were killed by their son, Nick, "according to multiple sources who have spoken with family members." Police have yet to confirm this, and while Nick is allegedly being questioned, no arrests have been made.

Nick has previously talked about issues with drug addiction and homelessness, though it's believed he got clean in the mid-2010s. Beyond the circumstances of their deaths, this is a tragic loss and, as you might expect, tributes have been flooding in:

Damn shame. The Princess Bride is easily one of the most iconic 80s movies. I lost track of how many times I watched it.

RIP "Meathead".

@ModHaterSLADE - Agreed. He’s directed many excellent and iconic films at a time when Hollywood produced real quality. I may have been vehemently opposed to his political beliefs, but no one deserves that fate (other than violent criminals IMO) and his horrified reaction to Kirk’s murder shows he had compassion for his fellow humans. A sad day for Hollywood.

@Bucky74 - Yeah, he was an actual decent person.

@ModHaterSLADE - Listen, he’s said some vile things about the Orange guy the Left is Pavlovian conditioned to hate. Some real completely unhinged stuff, but where push came to shove he showed decency and humanity when a young spokesperson and father from the opposing party was violently murdered by a Leftist lunatic. I respect him for that and some of the excellent films he made over the years

@Bucky74 - I don't care what he said about Trump, nobody deserves to go out how he did for words, and I'm not gonna point the finger at one political side being conditioned to hate when we've had multiple accounts from both sides having its share of disgusting human beings.

Bucky74 - 12/15/2025, 5:33 PM
@ModHaterSLADE - 90 percent or more of political violence has come from the Left and their supporters, but that's not what I was saying. This was not political violence; it was his drug addict son. My point is that although I strongly disagreed with him, he was a talented director, and this is horrible, and no one, including Reiner, deserves this. Not sure what you misunderstood here.

ModHaterSLADE - 12/15/2025, 5:52 PM
@Bucky74 - I misunderstood nothing, I think you misunderstood my point at how it s irrelevant about the Left and Right and political violence for this one, especially when it had nothing to do with my initial comment, which wasn't remotely politically related...

@Bucky74 - “90 percent or more of political violence has come from the Left and their supporters.” I don’t wanna turn this comment section into a political one, but I cannot let that go without citing it as absolute and total bull. There has been an uptick of violence on the left, but it is still completely overshadowed by violence on the right.

Bucky74 - 12/15/2025, 9:15 PM
@RolandD - That’s not statement is not based in reality.
Bucky74
Bucky74 - 12/15/2025, 9:16 PM
@RolandD - Absolutely not true
RolandD

@Bucky74 - FACTS!
Bucky74
Bucky74 - 12/15/2025, 10:27 PM
@RolandD - Lol, PBS. Absolute Left wing propaganda. Facts:

https://www.foxnews.com/us/charlie-kirk-killing-puts-rise-left-wing-terror-spotlight-study-shows-violence-hitting-30-year-high

Kirk, the last 10 Left wing terrorist attacked by trans or those dating trans, the violent Ice riots, the Summer of 2020 Left wing BLM and Antifa riots where dozens were killed (including hero retired police chief David Dorn), cities were burned to the ground and there was billions in damages, the Brown attack where the head of the Republican club was murdered, and on and on. You folks really live in a bubble where you push the opposite of the actual truth.
RolandD
RolandD - 12/15/2025, 10:37 PM
@Bucky74 - None of this violence is any good but your original statement is still nonsense. From the CSIS article I posted and it is also cited in the Fox story.
“ In recent years, the United States has seen an increase in the number of left-wing terrorism attacks and plots, although such violence has risen from very low levels and remains much lower than historical levels of violence carried out by right-wing and jihadist attackers.”
RolandD
RolandD - 12/15/2025, 10:44 PM
@Bucky74 - One other thing that I suggest we keep in mind, attacks on either side of the spectrum are carried out by extremists and would not be supported by the vast majority of people on either side of the spectrum. To vilify either side totally and is only something people who want to see America fail would support.

Wahhvacado - 12/16/2025, 9:28 AM
@RolandD - lol "PBS is left wing propaganda" immediately posts fox news
RolandD
RolandD - 12/16/2025, 9:42 AM
@Wahhvacado - Which is one reason that I posted a couple of sources, one of which was cited by Fox.😂
Wahhvacado

@Wahhvacado - Lololololol
Bucky74
Bucky74 - 12/16/2025, 10:01 AM
@RolandD - Again based on 2020 alone (dozens killed, thousands of police and civilians injured, billions in property damage) and other non Left sources, I strongly disagree. A lot of Left wing violence isn’t reported as such when in fact, in many cases, the perpetrator is proven to have a strong Left wing ideology. But I do agree that any violence from any side is wrong (again, not what this was), and should be condemned. And I also strongly believe that any violent criminal acts (political or otherwise) should be punished to the fullest.
Bucky74
Bucky74 - 12/16/2025, 10:02 AM
@RolandD - I wholeheartedly agree with this
Bucky74
Bucky74 - 12/16/2025, 10:08 AM
@Wahhvacado - That was my point. Although Fox has excellent coverage and does indeed present many stories based on facts when not including their opinion hosts (who are open about that). They broke many stories (along with the NY Post) that were dismissed and even vilified by the main stream media, only to be co firmed as true years later or after an election (the Russia disinformation campaign against Trump that some still actually believe, Hunter’s laptop now confirmed as legit, Biden’s cognitive decline, and much, much more).
Bucky74
Bucky74 - 12/16/2025, 10:14 AM
@RolandD - I wouldn’t dismiss Fox so readily because it doesn’t align with your political affiliation. Vilifying one of the few sources of News not leaning hard Left without actually critically evaluating individual stories is intellectually dangerous. They have broken many, many stories that the MSM finally admitted were true and factually correct. Did you really believe the border was secure under Biden, that he was “Sharp as a Tack” that taking the Covid shot prevents COVID, that Hunter’s laptop was not his, that Trump made a Pee pee tape that Russia had, that record 9 percent inflation under Biden was not happening, and much more? All that has been proven to have been accurately reported so when you laugh, maybe you should consider that because these News sources you trusted were laughing at you
Wahhvacado
Wahhvacado - 12/16/2025, 10:16 AM
@Bucky74 - Fox News pushes us vs them division similar to outlets like CNN. Many news organizations break stories but they are a propaganda vehicle for the right as other outlets would be for the left.

News organizations thay focus on rage bait and vilifying the other side are all part of the problem
Bucky74
Bucky74 - 12/16/2025, 10:19 AM
@Wahhvacado - No I didn’t. The 2020 “Summer of Love” riots (by the hard Left) caused billions in damage as cities and buildings were burned to the ground, saw Dozens murdered, thousands (including thousands of police officers) injured, and were supported by Dem politicians. Then there were all the mass shootings by those who were trans (not typically aligned with the right) and the Trump attempted assassination, the actual Kirk assassination, and more. No, you guys are excellent at political violence
Bucky74
Bucky74 - 12/16/2025, 10:24 AM
@Wahhvacado - I agree to a certain degree but I pursue all and Fox is much closer to the truth in most cases than the other sources you mention. By the way, I’m old enough to remember when there was real news you could trust on network TV. ABC, CBS, and NBC used to simply and factually report the news. There was always a (very) slight left wing slant but it was mostly trustworthy. Something happened even before that Orange man came down that escalator to change that and they went all in and took a hard Left turn which hurt both truth and media. I’d love to see all go back to the center but I can’t see that happening.
RolandD
RolandD - 12/16/2025, 1:31 PM
@Bucky74 - Your 90% “statistic “ is still nonsense. Listing examples doesn’t make your point. “Some things aren’t counted” is just smoke and mirrors.
Bucky74
Bucky74 - 12/16/2025, 2:47 PM
@RolandD - it’s factual but agree to disagree. And again, all violence political or otherwise should be condemned and punished. Sadly, this was a case of his kid’s drug addiction escalating to murder. Again, I strongly disagreed with Reiner politically but I also hate that this happened. He showed humanity in his interview about Kirk’s assassination and deserves the same along with his wife.
RolandD
RolandD - 12/16/2025, 8:41 PM

@Conquistador - His son is an addict from young age. They made a movie together that was loosely base on their relationship. Charlie something, cant remember, it had charlie in the name. I remember watching an interview with the two of them and the son either was very nervous or was just kind of... off. Either way, very sad.
