Warner Bros. And Paramount To Become Skydance — Trailer For The Merger Hypes Up Company's Many Franchises

As Paramount Pictures and Warner Bros. Discovery prepare to merge into one of the world's biggest media conglomerates, it's been announced that the companies will be known as "Skydance" moving forward.

Paramount Pictures recently managed to clear the last major hurdle in its quest to acquire Warner Bros. for $110 billion, and it's now only a matter of time until the deal is finalised.

Only time will tell what that means for Hollywood in the long run. However, the combined venture has a name: Skydance. Paramount became Paramount Skydance when the David Ellison-owned company acquired Paramount, and now both Paramount and Warner Bros. will fall under that banner.

In terms of what this means for DC Studios and the DCU, it's been reported that James Gunn and Peter Safran will be invited to remain in charge of the franchise "at least initially." Their future will likely hinge on the success of upcoming titles like Clayface and Man of Tomorrow.

When Skydance is officially formed, Ellison will be in charge of TNT, CBS, CNN, MTV, TCM, Showtime, Adult Swim, DC Studios, Paramount+, Nickelodeon, HBO/HBO Max, Comedy Central, and Cartoon Network.

In terms of film rights, the company will own the likes of Star Trek, DC Comics, Harry Potter, Transformers, Game of Thrones, Mission: Impossible, The Lord of the Rings, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. It will also hold the distribution rights to Dune, Minecraft, and the MonsterVerse.

Ellison shared the following on social media:

What once was the peak, is now just the beginning.

Paramount and Warner Bros. shaped over a century of culture. By combining them, we aren't rewriting history — we're equipping these iconic studios with a more powerful engine. Together, we are Skydance: a creative-first home for bold, quality storytelling.

We chose this name for a few important reasons. First and foremost, as we bring Paramount and Warner Bros. together, we wanted to preserve what has made each of these studios iconic. Both have distinct identities, extraordinary legacies and brands that have resonated with audiences for generations. We never wanted a new corporate identity to diminish, alter or overshadow either one. Instead, we wanted a name that would give the combined company an identity of its own while allowing Paramount and Warner Bros. — and all our extraordinary brands — to remain in the spotlight.

We have big goals for Skydance, and we intend to pursue them with passion, imagination and a willingness to take smart risks. At the same time, we will honor what makes Paramount and Warner Bros. special — giving both studios the opportunity to grow, tell more great stories and bring those stories to even broader audiences around the world, powered by the scale and capabilities of Skydance.

I couldn’t be more excited about what we’re going to build together.

A trailer, of sorts, has been revealed to celebrate the announcement. In it, Skydance's many franchises are highlighted, including the DC Universe (David Corenswet's Superman is front and centre, lending weight to recent reports that he'll be sticking around for the long haul).

@Magus - to Netflix.

At pennies on the dollar.

And they keep Gunn too.

If Man of Tomorrow flops, Gunn and Safran will most likely be out, but I wouldn't count on a reboot. It'll either be a rework of what is already there, or worse, a complete shelving of DC films on screen save for their long time money maker; Batman.

@TheWinkler - that's the reporters quote, nothing official.

Officially, Gunn could have had his contract extended to 2031. We don't know yet.

Jesus , putting all those channels & franchises together amongst other things really puts it into perspective how much power Ellison now wields which is scary.

Anyway , it makes sense to have Gunn & Safran on for now since they have no incentive to get rid of them yet…

Yes sure , Supergirl flopped but Superman was a success (one could debate how big of one but still) so it’s just a wait & see and business as usual for now at the top atleast until MOT which I feel will be the first real big test because if that underperforms then I think questions will be raised about this vision for the DCU atleast but we’ll see!!.

@TheVisionary25 - like Disney, this is too big. This isn't just about who makes the next Batman. This is borderline state controlled media. It's gross.

That said, this is old media and it's not what it used to be.

I give it 4 years. They'll sell the former divisions of WB that was all the cable networks and HBO/Max.
Then What encompassed the film division of WB. Then shortly after they'll sell of Paramount TV divisions and networks... This company is not going to last with the epic amount of debt. It is an unreal amount.
