POWER RANGERS Reboot Taps TITANS Co-Producer To Pen The Movie's Screenplay

Deadline reveals that eOne and Hasbro have now closed a deal to have Bryan Edward Hill write the planned big screen reboot of Power Rangers. Jonathan Entwistle is directing the movie, and has been tapped to take charge of the franchise in both theaters and on television.

The 2017 reboot from Lionsgate tried to take advantage of the superhero movie craze, but delivered a bloated origin story with an oddly specific focus on Krispy Kreme donuts during the final act.

As for Hill, he's one of the most prolific African-American filmmakers working today, and most recently adapted Black for Studio 8 and Warner Bros., penned Revenge of Magic for Stampede, and rewrote I Am Yours for Paramount. He's a co-producer on HBO Max's Titans, and has a history writing some huge titles for Marvel DC, Top Cow, Boom, and Vertigo.

Needless to say, it's hard to escape the feeling that Power Rangers is now in safe hands, and this could be the movie fans of the franchise have been waiting for. It certainly won't be hard to improve on the last effort, and providing eOne and Hasbro don't move too far away from what always worked in the past, we should be in for a treat.

What do you guys think about Hill writing the Power Rangers screenplay?

@Dredd97 - One of the worst lines in any comic book adaptation ever, which is saying something

After rewatching the 2017 reboot a few days ago, I think I liked it better the second time. The teen stuff works pretty well. It's just the fact that 1 hour & 30 minutes goes by in the 2 hour movie before they morph. The last 30 minutes is fun, but average at best. They just didn't seem to care enough about the Power Rangers themselves. I got used to the new cast, so I'm not sure how I'll feel about yet another new cast.

@BlackBeltJones - the downside of them going fully original and ditching the Sentai footage is that now it's probably gonna lack all the overly exaggerated body movements.

So lemme guess... It'll be unnecessarily dark and edgy for edginess sake?

Green Ranger, Lord Zedd, more time in costumes, embrace the morphin grid and the potential for cross-overs with past series... just a few ways to capitalize here

I'll remain somewhat optimistic. I don't get excited about Power Rangers, but Jonathan Entwistle is enough to get me on board. I LOVED the Netflix shows he worked on. Never seen Titans, though, so I don't know much about the writer.

Yea...that doesn't inspire confidence.

I was too old to care about the original Power Rangers when they were a thing. I actually didn't mind the last movie. It was alright for a YA type deal, with the exception of the Krispy Kreme placements. I wish they had tried to build off that one actually.

The biggest problem with the recent reboot was the lack of over-the-top body language that makes Tokusatsu so much fun to watch.
