Spider-Man: Brand New Day Webs Up Biggest Second Monday - And It Could Become Highest-Grossing U.S. Movie Ever

Spider-Man: Brand New Day's record-breaking streak continues, this time with the biggest second Monday in U.S. box office history. How high can it go? The sky might be the limit for Spidey.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day has now been playing in theaters since July 29, but it's still breaking records. While we're waiting on final numbers—it's looking like a $17 million haul—the Sony Pictures/Marvel Studios co-production is set to web up the biggest second Monday of all time, besting previous record-holder Avengers: Endgame by at least +50%.

Today, the wall-crawler's latest solo outing should surpass the entire domestic runs of Titanic, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avatar: The Way of Water to become the seventh highest-grossing movie ever in the U.S. (after just 12 days).

By Wednesday, Spider-Man: Brand New Day will also hit $700 million at the domestic box office, a feat it's likely to achieve in 13 days. Crucially, as of today, it's $38 million ahead of Avengers: Endgame at the same point in its run, despite being only $3 million ahead after its opening weekend last month.

$900 million by the end of its theatrical run is pretty much guaranteed now. However, there's a chance Spider-Man: Brand New Day will ultimately beat Star Wars: The Force Awakens' $936 million record to become the biggest movie ever in the U.S. It's too soon to say for sure, but it seems there's no stopping this one.

How successful is Spider-Man: Brand New Day? Well, here's how it compares to the rest of this summer's biggest movies...

Spider-Man: Brand New Day - $671.3 million
Toy Story 5 - $470.7 million
The Odyssey - $461.4 million
Obsession - $263.3 million
The Devil Wears Prada 2 - $220.6 million
Backrooms - $197.5 million
The Mandalorian and Grogu - $177.7 million
Minions & Monsters - $176.4 million

"I didn’t — for all the reasons I don’t think anyone did, because of COVID, because of the beating that theatrical took for so long," Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige recently replied when he was asked whether Spider-Man: Brand New Day beating Avengers: Endgame's opening weekend came as a surprise. "But once the bar had been raised, it could be raised again, right?"

"The first movie to ever cross $100 million over opening weekend was Sam Raimi’s 'Spider-Man.' The first to cross $150 million in one weekend was Sam Raimi’s 'Spider-Man 3.' The first to $200 million was the first 'Avengers.' And then, of course, the first to $300 million was 'Endgame.'"

"We did think that things could increase, but the past five or six years didn’t necessarily feel like that was the case," he continued. "That’s a long-winded way of saying I did not expect 'Endgame’s' record to be beat, but I couldn’t be happier that it was beat this past weekend by our 38th MCU movie."

How many times have you watched Spider-Man: Brand New Day in theaters?

In Spider-Man: Brand New Day, it's a Brand New Day for Peter Parker. Fighting crime full-time as Spider-Man in a world that doesn’t remember him—and the pressure of seeing his old friends move on without him—sparks a change in Peter he may not have the power to control.

But that transformation might also be the only thing that can stop a shocking new threat to the city and those he loves - a powerful villain no one can even see. The world may have forgotten Peter Parker, but he hasn’t forgotten them.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day's cast includes Tom Holland, Zendaya, Sadie, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Tramell Tillman, Michael Mando, and Mark Ruffalo.

The movie is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and written by Chris McKenna & Erik Sommers. The film is produced by Kevin Feige, Amy Pascal, Avi Arad and Rachel O'Connor. Executive producers include Louis D'Esposito and David Cain.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is now playing in theaters.

James Cameron was supposed to direct the first movie back in the 90's with a Dicaprio Peter Parker, it would have been a billion dollar movie back in the 90's 💯

@Truoptimusprime - Perhaps, but the script for that movie was an absolute dumpster fire and I’m glad it didn’t get made

Don't worry DC fans! Gunn will combat this with... a Jimmy Olsen show! Enjoy your slop.

Reboot the MCU and DCU

@OneMoreTime - solo outing, you say?

JK, but this and Deadpool and Wolverine should be lessons to marvel and Disney that we don’t have to wait for or build to avengers movies anymore. They have pretty much all of their characters in their control. Fans are just as excited, or more so, to see different groups of characters interact in more organic ways. The idea that there is an organized team of super beings is not a necessity. I hope they heed this with xmen as well. Yes we absolutely need an organized xmen team, but we don’t necessarily need an “xmen team” movie to showcase multiple exciting characters.

That’s a lot of money

It still needs an additional $284 million to catch The Force Awakens domestically, so it's not completely out of reach, but it'll still be difficult.

@TheJok3r - I think it will get there but very slowly. What I want to see it do is Cross 1 billion. First movie to cross 1 billion domestically, which would also be the first single territory to Cross 1 billion.

@TheWalkingCuban - I think it'll be a very long time before we see a $1 billion domestic movie; we'll have to wait for an Avengers Vs. X-Men or Supergirl sequel to start having those conversations.

Spider-Man three billion maybe ?

@dragon316 - foreign numbers are not on par with endgame, that’s the only reason I don’t think it will top that movie globally. Oh, they are high, but they’re not endgame high.

That’s crazy but still so great to watch after having so many cbms flop/underperform recently!!.

Honestly I can see it dying down in the next few weeks but will still likely get to 900 million or so domestically due to there being little to no competition coming up…

It’s gonna be hard for any film to top BND’s B.O performance this aside from maybe Doomsday (which I still feel will have a hard time matching this) but we’ll see!!.

Anyway , it continues to deserve its success since it was very good imo!!.

Other than Oak Street coming out, which doesn't look poised to be some big hit, there's nothing in Spidey's way
