While still in the midst of breaking new that Zack Synder would direct the revival of the last son of Krypton, Superman, rumors have already circulated that a Kryptonian criminal will be the film's villain. The Hollywood Reporter offhandedly stated in their article,

"Goyer is writing the script, which is rumored to have, like "Superman Returns," a Richard Donner connection. In this movie's case, it's a villain connection: General Zod.

While THR uses the word “rumor”, Slashfilm & Latino Review claim they've heard that Zod would be the villain from other independent high placed sources.

General Zod appears in Superman: The Movie and Superman II, portrayed by actor Terence Stamp as a pathologically arrogant and pompous aristocrat, almost bored with his incredible powers and disappointed with the ease of overtaking Earth. Zod's line "Come to me, son of Jor-El! Kneel before Zod!" has become part of pop culture.

While there were many different versions of General Dru-Zod in the comics, hes often known for being exiled to the Phantom Zone by Jor-El after attempting to conquer Krypton. And hes Best known for his catchphrase "Kneel Before Zod!"
