With only one episode of Lanterns left, all eyes are on how the HBO series wraps up and sets the stage for John Stewart's role in next summer's Man of Tomorrow. The expectation is that he'll be Earth's Green Lantern alongside Guy Gardner by then, but other theories have suggested something vastly different could be in the works.
A new listing on the official DC Shop has got fans talking today, as it might reveal a first look at John's Green Lantern uniform. While he's obviously not going to be wearing a hoodie emblazoned with a catchphrase, fans have been quick to point out the similarity in colour here to what John wears on the page.
The black that predominantly covers the hoodie then turns to green around the neck and chest area, and it's hard to imagine an official piece of merchandise like this has been created without some basis for what we'll see in next Sunday's finale.
The addition of what seems to be a glowing chest logo is also interesting, and if this is close to what we'll see in Lanterns and Man of Tomorrow, then fans will surely walk away happy. Again, this isn't officially labelled as a take on John's DCU suit, hence the "may have been revealed" in the headline. We'll be sure to keep you updated on Sunday, regardless.
In related news, DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn has taken to Threads to reiterate that Sunday's Lanterns finale is a season finale, not a series finale. HBO hasn't given Season 2 an official green light yet, and network boss Casey Bloys has hinted at a cutback on DCU content for television. With that in mind, only time will tell whether we get more Lanterns down the line.
The promo for next week's episode didn't give much away, but you can see what clues you're able to find by watching it here.
Lanterns follows new recruit John Stewart and Lantern legend Hal Jordan, two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.
Alongside Kyle Chander and Aaron Pierre, Kelly Macdonald, Garret Dillahunt, Poorna Jagannathan, Nicole Ari Parker, Jason Ritter, J. Alphonse Nicholson, and Jasmine Cephas Jones round out the cast.
Seven episodes of Lanterns are now streaming on HBO Max. As for Man of Tomorrow, Gunn's Superman sequel will touch down in theaters on July 9, 2027.
