The Green Lantern suit Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) wears in HBO's Lanterns has proven divisive (to say the least), and some fans think this officially licensed Halloween costume actually looks a little better - especially since it's sans shoulder pads.
It's definitely... brighter!
Jordan's suit is supposed to look faded and beaten up from years of wear and tear, but we did get a couple of glimpses of a younger Hal during flashbacks, and the costume definitely didn't have as much yellow/gold. The Funko POP below is a more accurate representation.
In related news, Lanterns podcast co-host @fantasticfrankey has doubled down on her assertion that Jordan is "racist."
“At the end of the day, ‘Midwest Huxtables’ is a microaggression, and Hal knew that,” she said. “I’ve been getting heat because I made this thread saying that Hal was a bit racist, and you know what? I stand by it.”
To be fair, the "Midwest Huxtables" line was a little eyebrow-raising, but labelling Hal a racist for this one condescending remark that he most likely said to get a rise out of John Stewart is a bit of a stretch.
Even if you happen to agree with Frankey, this dialogue was written for this version of the character and has nothing to do with the Hal Jordan fans have been following in the comics for all these years.
We'll see how things progress over the next five episodes, but don't be surprised if the writers decide to throw in a few more "microaggressions" along the way.
Backlash aside, Lanterns is going from strength to strength when it comes to viewership.
According to Variety, episode 3 averaged 10 million viewers globally and 7 million viewers in the U.S. after three days of viewership. This marks a series high for the DC Studios/HBO Max show (the pilot episode has now attracted more than 20 million viewers worldwide), which ranks among the top five series launches in the platform’s history.
