Daredevil: Born Again Star Finn Jones Addresses MCU Return — And Says Danny Rand Is Now A Very Different Hero

Finn Jones is returning as Danny Rand in Daredevil: Born Again, and the actor has opened up about how Iron Fist has evolved over the past decade and why he's so happy with Marvel's plans.

Netflix's Iron Fist proved largely disappointing for fans, though the character was somewhat redeemed with his appearances in Luke Cage and The Defenders.

While the majority weren't too upset when the plug was pulled on the series after two seasons, it still felt like lead star Finn Jones never really got to show what he was capable of as Danny Rand. After all, the series, which ran for 26 episodes, never even gave him a costume in the present day.

Now, Jones is getting another chance in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, where he'll reunite with his fellow Defenders, Luke Cage (Mike Colter) and Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter). Will he suit up? It's too soon to say.

In an interview with IGN at New York Comic Con, Jones opened up about his surprise MCU return and how the character has changed since we last saw him in action.

"It's wild to not play a character for 10 years and then come back after all that time. For an actor, it's a wonderful gift," the Game of Thrones star enthused. "I think personally people grow a lot in 10 years, and as an actor you grow a lot, and characters grow a lot as well."

Jones continued, "So to come back with all of that kind of story and to bring that forward into this, what I see is it's kind of like a new version of Danny Rand or a more evolved, grown-up version, is really fun. So fun."

While he couldn't give anything away about Iron Fist's role in Daredevil: Born Again Season 3, the actor admitted that he's given serious thought to what Danny has been up to since we last saw him in 2017.

"I think he's been around the world in various different secret orders, probably a lot of time down in ancient ruins in South America and in Asia, really honing his craft," Jones shared. "I think he's gone through a lot of grief and a lot of joy, and I think that's really forged the Danny that we see show up in Daredevil Season 3."

"That's all my own backstory. That's just like where I believe the character has been and then what we see in the show is I think a culmination of that," he added, confirming that he'll share the screen with Colter, Ritter, and Daredevil actor Charlie Cox.

Explaining that this Danny is "very, very grounded" with "a different quality to him, which is just a joy to play," Jones concluded, "The way that they've written Danny this year is – I'm just so grateful. I'm just so grateful [for] the level of attention that's been put into the character. And I remember getting the scripts and I was just like, 'I got no notes.' I'm just ready to show up and give my all."

Ritter has also been discussing her MCU future and whether Jessica could continue making her presence felt in the MCU after Daredevil: Born Again. You can hear from the actress in the players below.

I hope Finn really does nail it this time around. Hopefully all that "honing his craft" etc means that he too has been actually preparing for the second chance to be a convincing and captivating Danny Rand. I still remember back then when Iron Fist came out thinking "How is Iron Fist the weakest character in his own show?" On the heels of all the other Defenders, it was just astounding

Should have been it's own show!

@ArthurFuchsache - too expensive unfortunately

Plus he has said it’s his own backstory that he came up with in his head for reference so may not be true…

Hell , we may not even find out what he has been up to since we last saw him in Iron Fist S2 which sucks but oh well , a lot of characters in Born Again S3 so no time to delve on one for too long.

@ArthurFuchsache -if they are willing to fork over money like they have been with other shows in the past , I would love a globetrotting Iron Fist show in live action

If not then maybe animation?.

@TheVisionary25 - seems to be a recurring thing for marvel to have the cool stuff and character development happen mostly off screen. All jabs and jokes aside, I agree, an animated show would be great!

@ArthurFuchsache - I disagree with that since there’s a lot of cool stuff and character development that’s happened on screen too

It’s just when you have so many characters to utilize and not enough time & space then you gotta shortcut some things unfortunately.

The Daredevil Revival has been lackluster and utterly disappointing. Giving this idiot another show is the wrong idea but of course that's all they seem to be doing these days, aside from Team Up movies and Spider-Man movies

I’m not a fan of this version of Danny and Luke but since we’re getting it can we please get a Hero’s For Hire Special Presentation. Have it be a nod to 70’s exploitation and Kung Fu movies and put Danny in the full costume with mask.

I still don’t understand why they didn’t just give him a version of the mask that was similar to DD’s S1 mask. Plus it would’ve allowed them to easily slip in a stunt and/or martial artist to do some insane fight choreography.

@BruceWayng - I'd love a Hero's For Hire thing, but I'd rather it be two other guys playing those characters, not Mike and Finn.

He was redeemed in the second season, also. Did you not watch that?

"very, very grounded"

This means we'll get more of the same bullshit use of his powers. [frick] off. Born Again is PURE SHIT!

Reboot the MCU and DCU

Finn just shattered his silence with his iron fist! Still haven't watched Born Again but I will hunt down clips of season three just to see if they finally got Rand right.

Shame the character didn't start off being as well-written as he was on Luke Cage. Whatever idiot decided to make Danny Rand a man-child hippie obviously didn't read the comics.

Finn’s comments about Danny sound good imo!!.

I still think Danny’s arc in the Netflix shows was one of maturation & coming of age essentially since he very much was a kid in a lot of ways mentally & emotionally which he did in Iron Fist & Defenders to an extent imo with LC S2 being him at his peak as a mature and grown up person…

Hell , he even regresses a bit in IF S2 due to Davos inclusion given he is his best friend turned enemy in that version but still fairly levelheaded & mature I feel so if he’s even moreso now given whatever experiences he has had then that’s a good sign this I’m even more excited to see how Danny is written and characterized in BA S3.

It just sucks that we get him and he’s likely already put back on the shelf afterwards since it’s the last season but oh well , hopefully we see all of them sooner then later!!.
