MARVEL ZOMBIES' Rotten Tomatoes Score Has Been Revealed As First Reviews Shamble Online

With the first wave of reviews counted on Rotten Tomatoes, a score has been generated for Marvel Animation's Marvel Zombies. You can find out how the What If...? spin-off is faring with critics here!

The review embargo for Marvel Zombies lifted when the show arrived on Disney+, and the latest Marvel Animation TV series is faring pretty well so far. While it's important to note that only 15 verdicts have been counted, the show currently sits at a "Fresh" 67% on Rotten Tomatoes

The fan-generated Popcornmeter only has 50+ ratings, but Marvel Zombies sits at 85% on that, suggesting viewers have responded well to the What If...? spin-off/follow-up.

In io9's review, it's said that Marvel Zombies is "not quite a disaster, but if another story in this universe is to be told, it should try to be more than a bloody distraction." IGN adds, "Marvel Zombies may be formulaic at times, but the series succeeds by giving us exactly what the MCU hasn’t in recent years."

Discussing Film was less enthused and wrote, "Marvel Zombies introduces some fun character dynamics and awesome concepts in this undead corner of the multiverse, but it ends up being just another middling MCU show."

AV Club also published a negative verdict. "Even with the zombie apocalypse there to spice up their lives," the site explains, "Marvel’s newest heroes are less lively than the arm-munchers surrounding them."

That's countered by GamesRadar+. "While Marvel Zombies is coming at a weird time for the MCU, it's a pleasant enough diversion for horror fans, with some fun character surprises, bloody kills, and great action scenes."

So, it's a solid addition to the MCU that maybe doesn't quite manage to reach the same heights as X-Men '97 and Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man (which are rated 99% and 97%, respectively).

With 67%, Marvel Zombies sits behind What If...? season 3 as Marvel Animation's lowest-rated TV series. It's nowhere near "Rotten" territory, of course, and a second season is going to hinge on how many viewers decide to tune into the show.

We broke down the ending of Marvel Zombies here and took a deep dive into every character death in a feature published earlier today

In Marvel Zombies, after the Avengers are overtaken by a zombie plague, a desperate group of survivors discovers the key to bringing an end to the super-powered undead, racing across a dystopian landscape and risking life and limb to save their world.

The series will feature the voices of Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch), Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), Florence Pugh (Yelena Belova), David Harbour (Red Guardian), Tessa Thompson (Valkyrie), Simu Liu (Shang-Chi), Awkwafina (Katy), Hailee Steinfeld (Kate Bishop), Wyatt Russell (U.S. Agent), Randall Park (Jimmy Woo), Iman Vellani (Ms. Marvel) and Dominique Thorne (Ironheart), among others.

Marvel Zombies was created by Bryan Andrews and Zeb Wells. The series is executive produced by Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Brad Winderbaum, Dana Vasquez-Eberhardt, Bryan Andrews and Zeb Wells, and is produced by Danielle Costa and Carrie Wassenaar.

Run, lurch, but definitely don’t walk to Disney+ on September 24 to catch the four-episode Marvel Zombies.

Yeah, 75% is about what I would have expected. I'm gonna binge watch it tonight !!

@JackDeth - The entire concept of an animated series like this is never going to appeal to all and nor should it thus to my mind in the 70's was likely the best to expect, higher than that may mean the concept was toned down too much such that it got an 'OK but not Bad' response from most.

I have NEVER been a fan of anything Zombie related, the ones I've liked I LOVE but few and far between like the ORIGINAL Dawn of the Dead and parody of it Shawn of the Dead. The surprise one for me that I thought would be bad but LOVED was iZombie.

Mostly happy to skip Zombie films as a result of so rare I can get into and enjoy them and REALY nervous still of the new 28 later films cos the first couple were amongst the exceptions I did like and the last years later one gave all the vibes of loosing too much of what I liked of those and leaning more into what turns me off on the sub-genre.

Haven't fully decided if I'm gonna watch this show, probably leave it to watch Halloween week, the one off What If episode was OK but not great for me.

Cool , glad to see the fairly positive reception so far and hope it continues!!.

However , the reviews for this further proved the flawed methodology of RT because I see a review that gave the show 3 out of 5 stars but it’s a “Rotten” while I see a couple of other reviewers give it the same score or a 6/10 and it’s a “Fresh” though I think the reviews are posted as either negative or positive by the specific critic so perhaps a 3 out of 5 or 6 out of 10 may be either depending on the POV of that individual so oh well.

Anyway , the show has looked decent to me so I’ll give it a shot and hope I enjoy it!!.

@TheVisionary25 - Yeh the critics I think sometimes click 2.5/5 then put 3 out of 5 in the review text and never understand why they do that as feels like they are deliberately pushing the green splat for questionable reasons.

75% RT critics' score means it's good. Like She-Hulk: Attorney-at-Law's RT critics' score of 80% and The Acolyte's 79% RT critics' score means that they are good also.

After this its Wonder Man I think in December as the final MCU release of the year.

@dragon316 - Rotten Tomatoes scores aren't rigged so much as they don't take into account nuance in reviews themselves.
They just say "this percentage of critics liked the movie".

HAHAHA! Feige has become the Russell Wilson of movie studios. He can't win anymore.

What Feige is thinking now: "Either you die a hero or live long enough to become Avi Arad".

Just finished it. It was messy story wise, and absolutely none of the jokes land, a lot of it feels tonally awkward, but the action is pretty cool, the visuals are neat, and the final episode is pretty cool with some genuinely unique ideas. And there are a few moments of genuine heart mainly due to some excellent voice acting by David Harbor.

But honestly I didn't much care about any of the main cast and if they survived or not. And I'm not really certain I need to see where a second season goes with these characters. Interesting experiment, and I will say that I do enjoy R rated Marvel products and want to see more Marvel animation like this, just with much better writing. Not a terrible way to spend 4 hours, but I wouldn't call this must see tv.

@TheVandalore - I concur with alla that. Harbor made a good choice to go quiet with those last two "Yelena"s. Unlike the Raft this show is not airtight but it's a good way to kill a couple of hours.

Not sure about a season 2 though. I see Marvel Zombies as a one night stand. I had a blast but I won't remember it's name in the morning.

@ObserverIO - that's a very appropriate summary.

This show was great. I enjoyed the action and it was cool to see moon knight Blade in action. Thor and Hulk were great too. Wish we had just a bit more Spidey action.

So if this is a continuation of the What If...? Episode then it's a continuity error. Doctor Strange Supreme opened a portal from the zombie universe into the battlefield when fighting Infinity Ultron. In it he brought in thousands of zombies including Captain America and the Queen of the Dead. Infinity Ultron decimated the zombies and obliterated Wanda. So how was she not only returned to her universe but still alive?

Three useless female dingbat characters right off the bat. I couldn't make it to 10 minutes.

I was rooting for Zombie Hawkeye to kill them and get it over with.

What a dogshit product.
