VENOM: LET THERE BE CARNAGE's Runtime Has Been Revealed, & It's One Of The Shortest CBMs Of All Time

The official runtime for Venom: Let There Be Carnage has been revealed, and Sony Pictures' upcoming sequel is clocking in at just 90 minutes, making it one of the shortest CBMs of all time...

Nowadays, it's rare to see a comic book/superhero film (or really any major studio blockbuster) come in at under 120 minutes. In fact, most of 'em clock in closer to 2 and a half hours. We have some good news for those who feel movies are just too damn long these days, however, because Venom: Let There Be Carnage is looking to buck that trend.

With tickets for Venom 2 now on sale, AMCand Fandango theater sites have listed the movie with a 90 minute runtime. This is full 22 minutes shorter than its predecessor, and makes the Sony Pictures sequel one of the shortest comic book movies of all time.

For some context, the shortest MCU releases are Thor: The Dark World and The Incredible Hulk (both 112 minutes), while Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) is the DCEU's shortest entry (108 minutes). You'd actually have to go all the way back to 2007's Fantastic Four: The Rise of the Silver Surfer to find a CBM that comes close, and even that's 92 minutes-long.

This shouldn't be taken as a reflection on the quality of the movie, of course, but it is unusual - especially for a sequel that's set to introduce several new characters while expanding on the dynamics established in the first film.

We recently found out that Venom 2's release had been pushed forward by two weeks, and will now open on October 1. The movie is rated PG-13 for "intense sequences of violence and action, some strong language, disturbing material and suggestive references."

That's kind of refreshing, but also startlingly and surprisingly alarming.

@MosquitoFarmer - I am surprised at how startled I am at how refreshing it all is to you.

Sounds like a blessing since the movie looks godawful. A total hunk of shit.

Hope it flops and we never see this terrible franchise again

Well that’s disappointing if true. I was really looking forward to this movie but now far less so. Cutting a superhero movie down that short just screams that they didn’t film enough good material to really flesh it out.

@TheUnworthyThor - Or they just shot a tight and simple film. Less runtime means less cost and more money at the box office. We already saw the 1st one, part 2 is going to be the same but with more of the good stuff: cgi, tom hardy's weird acting, and fight scenes. Not expecting a film like James Gunn's Suicide Squad where it tries too hard to reinvent and revive a terrible franchise. It is what it is and there's already a pg-13 audience for Venom.

I think China has a rule where all theatrical films must be less than 2hrs to play at the cinemas and even less if its PG-13 so they probably made a cut that will fit all markets and make more money.

@mastakilla39 - I know they made a rule for COVID, I’m not sure if it’s still in play, movies have definitely released in China that are more than 2 hours. But of course a shorter cut for China is a very easy (and very cheap) thing to create.

And what a weird take you have. They know there is an audience for Venom so why try to make a great movie?

This is gonna flop so bad, Sony is gonna give up and (finally) let Kevin Feige control these characters.

@jarcastanon - Not gonna happen, Sony didn't even want to share spider-man why would they give Marvel the rest of their characters? With or without Marvel, Spider-man's characters are going to sell. If they start under performing Sony will just copy Marvel and shove Spiderman in all their films like how Marvel shoves Iron Man or Iron Man characters in everything.

I think fans have to start preparing themselves for Spiderman to leave the MCU because No Way Home is Holland's final solo film. after that he only owes them 2 more MCU cameos and if he does renew his contract its going to be fore Sony Spiderman films not MCU.

@jarcastanon - I actually kind of like the first Venom, but if this is how it turns out, I won't complain.

Any one else remember the Tiny Toons adventure episode where Plucky wins the school’s film festival just cause his film is short?
