Street Fighter Trailer Brings The Video Games To Life And Doesn't Spare On Action Or Campiness

A new trailer for this October's Street Fighter movie has been unleashed, and it's all about Ryu, Ken Masters, and the iconic video game characters who will take centre stage in this adaptation.

As we first reported on GameFragger.com, Paramount and Legendary have released the new trailer for Street Fighter, and the spotlight is placed squarely on the rivalry between franchise icons Ryu and Ken Masters.

The action comes thick and fast, and, quite rightfully, takes its cues from the games. The movie isn't ashamed of its roots, and rather than attempt to ground Street Fighter in reality, this latest sneak peek makes it clear that it's fully embracing the madcap, cheesy, and wildly unique fighting series.

Whether Street Fighter will appeal to more than just longtime gaming fans remains to be seen. Tonally, the movie looks like nothing else we've seen, and this level of goofiness and camp may struggle to attract a mainstream audience.

Still, this big-screen adaptation looks like a blast (the choice of song, a remixed version of Tupac's "Ambitionz az a Ridah," is also pretty inspired). Like the Marvel movies, embracing the source material is no bad thing and could be key to making Street Fighter a major force in Hollywood.

While you can watch the new trailer below, there's also a "playable" version on the official Street Fighter website. Hopefully, there will be more unique marketing ideas like that in the coming weeks as we get closer to its October release date.

Set in 1993, estranged Street Fighters Ryu (Andrew Koji) and Ken Masters (Noah Centineo) are thrown back into combat when the mysterious Chun-Li (Callina Liang) recruits them for the next World Warrior Tournament: a brutal clash of fists, fate, and fury. But behind this battle royale lies a deadly conspiracy that forces them to face off against each other and the demons of their past. And if they don’t, it’s "Game Over!"

Helmed by director Kitao Sakurai, Street Fighter is set to bring the battle from the arcade to the big screen with Hadoukens, roundhouses, and all your favourite characters.

The movie stars Noah Centineo as Ken Masters, Andrew Koji as Ryu, Callina Liang as Chun-Li, Joe "Roman Reigns" Anoai as Akuma, David Dastmalchian as M. Bison, Cody Rhodes as Guile, Andrew Schulz as Dan Hibiki, Vidyut Jammwal as Dhalsim, Eric André as Don Sauvage  With Curtis ‘50 Cent’ Jackson as Balrog, and Jason Momoa as Blanka.

The supporting cast includes Orville Peck as Vega, Olivier Richters as Zangief, Hirooki Goto as E. Honda, Rayna Vallandingham as Juli, Alexander Volkanovski as Joe, Kyle Mooney as Marvin, and Mel Jarnson as Cammy.

Street Fighter arrives in theaters on October 16.

No one wants a "campy" (codeword: butchered) Street Fighter. Go play the games (1-4 mainly), read the comics, watch the anime movie, or any production where the people take it seriously. It has almost never been campy except for the nonsense they make in America. This movie will be horrible and will bomb just as much as Mortal Shitbat 2.

@FireGunn - Jesus Christ, what do you do with your day, just hit “refresh” on a comic book movie website so you can spew negativity about [frick]ing everything?

Also, why do you continue to labor under the assumption that your own, childish, entitled, personal opinion is somehow reflective of how everyone else feels? “No one wants a campy Street Fighter”? No one? How the [frick] do you know, kid? This looks fun, silly, funny…kind of everything I expect out of a movie based on a rather silly game franchise. What were you looking for, exactly…a deep, thought-provoking analysis of the nature of violence in modern society? How about a super serious, dark, grim, gritty r-rated film about underground, international fight clubs, and how the perverse nature of their existence illustrates wealth disparity and cultural moral decay?

My guy, the game it is based on features a Brazilian monster who can radiate electricity, a karate surfer dude, a sumo wrestler who can move his hands at super speed, and a sad ninja who shoots fireballs out 0f his hands. Campy silliness fits. Get a [frick]ing grip, get a [frick]ing job, get a [frick]ing life.

@Rpendo - Keep writing your paragraphs about me dork lmao. Cope about the slop you're getting all you want, just don't expect others to eat it up. This movie looks atrocious.

Looks like this could be fun. Hell, it already looks light-years better than the boring Chun-Li movie.

That looks pretty fun imo…

Interested to see what led to Ken & Ryu falling out in this version (going by the clues in this , seems like it’s partly to do with Akuma perhaps) and it seems it like we will delving into Chun Li being after Bison for revenge in regards to the death of her father but perhaps doing so by infiltrating his organization undercover.

Definitely seems like Ryu , Ken & Chun Li are the leads while everyone else is playing a supporting role which works imo…

Anyway , if this turns out well then this would have been a good year for fighting game adaptations since MK 2 was fun and an improvement over the 2021 film!!.
