Kathleen Kennedy's Exit Reveals A Secret Animated INDIANA JONES Series Was Quietly Cancelled

As coverage of Kathleen Kennedy’s exit from Lucasfilm continues to dominate the news cycle, fresh details have surfaced about a secret Indiana Jones animated project.

Over the past few days, entertainment news coverage has been heavily dominated by multiple reports all centered around Kathleen Kennedy’s retirement from Lucasfilm, along with the promotion of Dave Filoni and Lynwen Brennan as he co-successors.

Amid all of that, one especially intriguing revelation has surfaced with regards to an Indiana Jones animated series that was once in development. It seems this secret project was in development and canned without any details leaking out until now.

According to reports, the animated Indiana Jones show would have been set between the events of the films, following a strategy similar to how Lucasfilm has long handled its Star Wars animated projects.

The Clone Wars, for example, functions as the definitive bridge between Episode II: Attack of the Clones and Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, while Star Wars Rebels fills in the gap between Episode III and the events of Episode IV: A New Hope.

The Indiana Jones animated series was in development under the code name Reggie (named after the snake from Raiders of the Lost Ark), and its development was being spearheaded by Rodrigo Blaas (Star Wars: Visions).

In her Lucasfilm exit interview with Deadline, Kennedy remarked, "I don’t think Indy will ever be done, but I don’t think anybody is interested right now in exploring it."

Under Kennedy's tenure, the disastrous Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny was released in 2023, a film that cost $352.3 million to produce and only grossed $384 million at the box office. Disney reportedly wrote down the film as a $134.2 million loss on their end of the year financial report to investors.

It's likely all Indiana Jones projects in development at Lucasfilm were cancelled in the wake of Dial of Destiny flopping.

Indiana Jones fans are hopeful that in the wake of Kennedy's departure and the elevation of Filloni, the project will be resurrected and move forward.

To date, there have been 5 live-action Indiana Jones films that have starred Harrison Ford. There was also the 1992 TV spin-off prequel series, The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles, starring Sean Patrick Flanery which consisted of 2 seasons spanning 28 episodes.

More recently, a well-received Indiana Jones and the Great Circle video game from Bethesda was released for Windows PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5. A Nintendo Switch 2 version is set for release later in 2026.

Reports of a full-on reboot of the franchise emerged in July 2025, with names such as Chris Pratt, Ryan Gosling, and Glen Powell speculated to potentially take up Indy's iconic hat and whip.

That would have been pretty sweet to see Indy (young & old) be on more adventures then what we saw or heard of in the films with animation seeming like the perfect avenue to do so imo.

Also I think if this is the artstyle they were going for based on Blaas’s work then it could have been really cool!!.

2 good movies only. And 3 was a remake of 1.

So really there’s 1.5 good Indy movies.

Number 1 got kinda ruined for a few viewings when I read on twitter someone calling it “j**ish revenge p**n”, but I managed to mentally throw that away, though it’s certainly there.

5 was better than 4 though. And 5 was a self-hating piece of poodoo. But 4 was really worse because it was so stupid.

Just let it die, the people who own the IP actually hate Indiana Jones. Womanizing and portraying native cultures as weird or dangerous is not allowed anymore.

Ty for reading my essay

Now that Kennedy's gone we can finally get Porkins: A Star Wars Story starring Paul Walter Hauser.

It’s a shame, with Harrison Ford really too old to play the role anymore, an animated series would be a fun way to get back into the character.

As if anyone asked: I think 1-4 are all excellent (I do not get the hate for 4 even a little bit), 5 was such a hot mess. They clearly tried to make it epic and thus overly long, and they tried to do the Force Awakens trick of “hey, remember that stuff you like from the other Indiana Jones movies? We did it all again but SLIGHTLY different!” It came together (or, rather, didn’t come together) in such a chaotic, hard-to-follow mess of a plot, and ANYONE saying the ending of crystal skull was bad has got to think the ending of dial of destiny was an all time dog turd. And to top it off, they rehashed the same epilogue beats from crystal skull, just with his niece instead of his son.

These peoples have no idea what the hell they are doing. They said no to this and The Hunt for Ben Solo. Both would have redeemed their characters and were things fans would enjoy, so of course they aren’t doing them. Solo could’ve redeemed the entire Skywalker saga! 🤦🏻‍♂️

@Huskers - Every single thing that Disney's done could have been awesome and redeemed their respective franchises. In theory.
Drace24
Drace24 - 1/19/2026, 12:20 PM
@Huskers - These people are so overly hesitant because this [frick]ed up fandom has taught them over 25+ years that there is no pleasing it.
Huskers
Huskers - 1/19/2026, 2:28 PM
@Drace24 - Yea, the fans are why Star Wars, the MCU, and Indiana Jones are struggling! lol
Drace24
Drace24 - 1/21/2026, 8:59 AM
@Huskers - Objectively speaking none of these are struggling. But the "fans" absolutely are the reason Star Wars feels so disjointed and directionless right now. And with "fans" I mean the mouthy trolls who have passionately hated on Star Wars for decades now, to the point where they turned hating Star Wars into its own echochamber on social media with dedicated channels and influencers just screaming the wildest culture war vitriol on their audience.

If it were your job to somehow satisfy these people, what would you do? And whatever you were just thinking off: It would fail. You could try to listen to the hate the prequels got for 15 years and give them lots of OT nostalgia with very little new stuff. But then TFA came out and they hated that. Suddenly they want new things. You could try to go in the opposite direction, break with old tropes and give Star Wars a brand new direction. But then TLJ came out and they hated that too. You could just give them exactly, beat for beat, what they want... and then end up with Rise of Skywalker.

There is no winning here. This obnoxious hate campaign has always been what ruined Star Wars. Heck, it has ruined lives (ask Ahmed Best or Kelly Marie Tran). The only complaint I have for LucasFilm is that they should have the artistic integrity to just do what they feel is right and stop trying to please the trolls. They have nothing good to say - and it doesn't even feel like they understand Star Wars.

If you consider The Great Circle along side of the movies, it is the third best Indy adventure out there.

@ProfessorWhy - don't forget Fate of Atlantis. Many consider that Indiana Jones 4 as well

@ProfessorWhy - Finale was pretty underwhelming. Then again, that seems normal for Indy. But I liked the characters. They even gave the bad guys some more personality than just "nazi".

"I don’t think Indy will ever be done, but I don’t think anybody is interested right now in exploring it."

Right and wrong. The latest game was received well, and I'm sure there'll be more. Hope we'll get a Fate of Atlantis remake or a Lego game similar to The Skywalker Saga.

@AnthonyVonGeek - The fandom wouldn't exist without Kathleen Kennedy. She was among the very first people to give Star Wars a chance. She also produced Back To The Future, Indiana Jones and lots of other movies you probably love. But when have butthurt man-children in this fandom ever treated the actual filmmakers with respect? I hope Kennedy gets her day of reckoning just like Ahmed Best did. And I'm glad she can no, hopefully, go back to just make movies again without constantly getting yelled at by immature nerds, who - let's not kid ourselves - will just move on to the next scapegoat for their impotent rage and their cringey laser eye thumbnails, like they always do.

Someone needs to add up all the canceled projects and see if they outnumber the released ones. I’m pretty sure more directors were fired by Disney Star Wars than actually released any movies.
Drace24
Drace24 - 1/19/2026, 12:08 PM
@EarlChai - Pretty sure that wouldn't even be that unnormal for a modern film studio.

@Drace24 - Yeah, true. Maybe we should refine it to “projects announced to great fanfare vs. projects actually released.”
