Avengers: Doomsday Artwork Reveals Sam Wilson's New Team Of Avengers — And There's One Surprise Addition

Sam Wilson's Avengers team has been revealed ahead of Avengers: Doomsday, and Steve Rogers' inclusion alongside his old friend has surprised many fans. A new look at Doctor Doom is also here.

Following the events of Captain America: Brave New World, Sam Wilson has assembled a new team of Avengers. Ahead of their debut in this December's Avengers: Doomsday, the roster has been officially revealed, and it's an impressive lineup.

As you can see in the X posts below, Cap will join the fight against Doctor Doom alongside Thor, Shang-Chi, The Falcon, Ant-Man, and former Captain America, Steve Rogers.

We didn't necessarily expect the latter to be associated with any one team, so his inclusion is a surprise...it also lends the group some major star power.

Elsewhere, there's a new look at Doctor Doom, and character descriptions for Sam and Joaquin Torres. The upcoming book also includes insights into what to expect from this iteration of Earth's Mightiest Heroes. Unsurprisingly, the Avengers will "join forces with new allies, in order to protect the world from the impending threat."

That's almost certainly a reference to the X-Men and Fantastic Four, not to mention the New Avengers. There were once plans for a rivalry between the two teams of Avengers, but rumour has it that recent reshoots have dialled back on that particular subplot.

"Chris Evans is somebody who I hold near and dear," Anthony Mackie shared in a recent interview while reflecting on 2019's Avengers: Endgame. "We’re at Chris’ house, and because he’s Captain America, he gets the [script] pages first. So he’s like, 'Yo, did you read the new scene?' I’m like, 'Nah, what’s up?' So, he takes me down...and he gave me the script and let me read it."

"And it was really great and really emotional to learn it from a friend," he said of finding out he'd be next to wield the shield as Captain America. "I don’t know a lot of actors who would have appreciated or celebrated that moment with a fellow actor in that way because I was taking his job for all intents and purposes."

What are your thoughts on Sam Wilson's Avengers team?

In Avengers: Doomsday, beloved heroes from three distinct universes will be set on a deadly collision course and face an existential threat unlike anything they’ve ever encountered.

Avengers: Doomsday stars Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, Winston Duke, Tom Hiddleston, Sebastian Stan, Letitia Wright, Paul Rudd, and Robert Downey Jr. Wyatt Russell, Simu Liu, Tenoch Huerta Mejia, Mabel Cadena, Florence Pugh, Danny Ramirez, David Harbour, Hannah John-Kamen, Lewis Pullman, India Rose Hemsworth, and Wesley Holloway all make their Avengers franchise debuts.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps leads Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Joseph Quinn join them, along with X-Men franchise stars Kelsey Grammer, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn, and James Marsden, plus Deadpool & Wolverine star Channing Tatum.

The Russo Brothers direct Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars from a screenplay by Stephen McFeely, with whom they previously collaborated on the Avengers and Captain America franchises. Loki and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness writer Michael Waldron has also been enlisted to refine the story, alongside Spider-Man: Brand New Day's Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers.

Avengers: Doomsday is set to be released on December 18.

For any Marvel comic readers, is Anthony Mackie a good Sam Wilson? Or is he supposed to hold more presence?
Bucky74
Bucky74 - 10/23/2026, 12:25 PM
@InfinitePunches - Steve Rogers is the only Cap people will pay money to see. They will try and give Sam “moments” in these films hoping this time THIS TIME we’ll get fans on board but it’s not happening. Cap is a character not a mantle. They’ve tried making Dick Batman and it never lasts and never will.
JabbaTheSus
JabbaTheSus - 10/23/2026, 12:48 PM
@InfinitePunches - Not really. and as Bucky74 said, It was similar to any time they've tried to pass the mantle in comics. It just doesn't work like 95% of the time. They really should have just given it to Bucky. It would have worked better, not because of any race issues, but because by that point, the audience had WAY more of an emotional connection to him than Sam. Plus the fact Bucky is actually a super soldier. Alas though, it was right at the start of the MCU pushing a big agenda on screen.

RE : "Alas though, it was right at the start of the MCU pushing a big agenda on screen."

You always know when to tune out a person,....it's when that buzzword "agenda" gets thrown in for "reasons"....

.......even though when the MCU made Sam Wilson the next Captain America in live action, and the next to take up the mantle, they were LITERALLY following what had already happened in the comics.
i.e.....comic-lore accuracy.....which the same clowns are always whining about Marvel not following whenever they try something new.

And in this instance when they do, and suddenly it's....."agenda".

You would have had a fair argument if you had complained that they shouldn't have done it in the comics either in the first place, but then your whole dumbass "...by that point the audience already had WAY more of an emotional connection to him (Bucky) than Sam..." argument would fall apart on its stupid face since Bucky didn't take up the mantle in the comics.

So I guess what I 'm saying is.... pick a lane, bud.
Should they stick to what happened in the comics (which they did)?...in which case you should shut up about the MCU pushing an "agenda".

Or should they have changed what they did in the comics to suit your "It's not about race" dumbass argument"?.....in which case your crowd should also shut the F up forever about Nick Fury being changed from Hasselhoff white to Sam Jackson black*, since....you didn't like that neither, and it (**checks notes**),..."wasn't about race" then neither when you were whining about it.

(*incidentally, that was also comics-lore accurate since as Marvel stated, the MCU was modelled on the Ultimates line, in which Nick Fury is indeed black in the comics.)
Bucky74
Bucky74 - 10/23/2026, 1:33 PM
@JabbaTheSus - I agree that Bucky would have been the better choice because of his connection to Steve, the fact that he has the serum, and the fact he’s also a WW2 hero. But that wouldn’t last either. Again, Cap is a character not a mantle and Steve Rogers will always be the only true Captain America
Lucasberg
Lucasberg - 10/23/2026, 2:08 PM
@JabbaTheSus -Well sad. Sam is great but he doesn't quite work as Captain America. He's fantastic as Falcon. In fact the writers seem to know because even after becoming Captain America, he's still basically well, falcon with wings and stuff. Joaquin is supposed to be Sam's falcon, but he just seems like diet falcon.

@spr0cks - I just need to reply to this lol

1. Another angry comment from you :)
2. Bucky took up the mantle of Captain America in the comics (2008) 6 years before Sam (2014) - I know because I bought both when they were published.
3. Instead of being so incessantly combative in practically each comment you post, why not state the substance of your case and by that you can demonstrate you're correct or incorrect without all the ad hominem and personal insult?

@Lucasberg -

1. I love how you're able to perceive my emotional state just from my comment. Like that should mean anything to me.
Another "Angry" comment from me, and so what?
Who forced you to respond to it and how can we report him or her to the authorities?

2. Soooo..... Sam becoming Captain America is comic-lore ACCURATE and therefore not just .....an "agenda" ......that the MCU was supposedly pushing like the person I was responding to was insinuating, right? Good. Thank you for confirming that agreeing with me on that fact at least. Next time try bothering to respond to the actual main point, which you didn't even bother trying to do so in this case, and decided to pick nits instead.

3. I already stated the substance of my case. You stepped over it, ignored it and acted like I didn't just so you could soapbox over who-knows-what.
So here, I'll help you out and do it again.....
Was Sam Wilson Captain America in the comics or not? Yes or No? (you already answered this in (2.), so this is rhetorical).
Therefore the MCU making him Captain America, wasn't in fact an "agenda", but rather them doing exactly what they'd done in comics already (whether or not you agreed with that decision in the comics for whatever reason you think they did it there. I'm merely addressing the MCU and live action decision), right? And therefore to claim that they did so in the MCU for live action for "agenda"'s sake is......nonsense, No?
I insulted his argument and not him, therefore it wasn't an "Ad Hominen" or personal insult.
But I can see where the confusion would lie in your case and the inability to tell the difference

@spr0cks - " they were LITERALLY following what had already happened in the comics."

Stop it. When they made him Cap in the comics it was during the most failed period of comic book history which they are still paying for. They turned back to Falcon, and brought him back as the second cap. His book has been cancelled multiple times and they keep shoving him in the Avengers and putting Steve on side quests through hell. Sometimes you gotta know when its not working.
Lucasberg
Lucasberg - 10/23/2026, 7:09 PM
@spr0cks - 1. Just pointing out your tone dude. “Clowns” “dumbass” etc from you to a guy sharing that Sam doesn’t work for him and that he was agenda driven.
2. I didn’t step over your point. You stated Bucky was never Cap. That was incorrect. And even if you want to argue fidelity to the comics it’s relevant that Bucky was Cap before Sam. I really don’t care about that but I was drawn to respond because your whole argument was not correct. A) Bucky was in fact Cap. B) He was Cap before Sam so fidelity to the comics would mean Bucky was up. I agree with OP that it made much more emotional sense thematically for Bucky to be it and that it does seem like they skipped over this to diversify the leads.
Lucasberg
Lucasberg - 10/23/2026, 7:15 PM
@spr0cks - also to add, “ I can see where the confusion would lie in your case and the inability to tell the difference” - another insult. You can try to rationalize the insults you freely hurl at people you disagree with and isolate it to “just their arguments” but it’s clear. You’re deliberately villifying those you disagree with as dumb idiots and yourself as enlightened. Not necessary or winsome to your points.

Honestly , Sam with Joaquin as the new Falcon alongside Thor , Shang Chi & Ant Man is a pretty good lineup tbh…

I don’t include Steve since he’s likely temporary but I would (if she wants too) ask Shuri to join since she could be another good addition to this Avengers team given her own intellect and powers.

I know some wish that we got atleast 1 Avengers film with his group and I get that but I like us being introduced to them being in progress in Doomsday since it adds to the underdog feel of these heroes with the New Avengers who Sam atleast has a grudge against and they themselves are fresh to all this hero business alongside the FF who are at their peak and know Victor aswell as the X-Men who seem to have had better days and don’t have a lot of people filling up their ranks thus being at their end…

It’s like we have teams with various different levels of experience against this big threat which could be fun imo so fingers crossed!!.

No charisma FalCap should lead a team of Monica Rambeau, Valkyrie, Ironheart, and Wonder Man because Captain America 4, The Marvels, Thor 4, Ironheart, and Wonder man were such smash hits with their audiences. Give em a cool name like "the Replacements."
