It's been a while since we've had any X-Men casting news. Still, with more roles to be cast and shooting scheduled for early next year, it surely won't be long until the ensemble expands again.
So far, the MCU's X-Men team appears to be comprised of Professor X, Emma Frost, Cyclops, Jean Grey, Angel, Storm, and Rogue. There's a lot of chatter about Iceman and Beast also factoring into the reboot, and new details have now emerged courtesy of insider @MyTimeToShineH.
Marvel Studios is reportedly in the midst of casting Kitty Pryde, a role it seems Alien: Romulus star Cailee Spaeny was briefly in the mix for. However, with Kitty and Beast said to have "only small roles in the first movie," the scooper posits that this may be "part of why it's so hard for them to close the deals." Charles Melton, meanwhile, is no longer in the running for Hank McCoy.
There are countless mutants for the X-Men franchise to focus on, and it surely won't be too long until we get movies and TV shows that allow more of them to shine. For now, though, these casting rumours suggest Kevin Feige has one eye on the future.
Talking on The Kyle Buchanan Show this week, Rogue actress Inde Navarrette said, "I think it’s a really good cast; I mean they’re all incredibly talented. [Maya Boyd is] wonderful, she’s amazing, she is such a light, she’s incredibly talented, she’s a triple threat, I’m pretty sure there’s a fourth one in there controlling the weather."
Asked what she's excited to explore with the hero, the actress added, "It could be the accent, right? Just going back to Southern. I mean, there’s so much to her and I, I can’t wait to get it started. I can’t say too much, but that character I’m really excited about."
Directed by Jake Schreier (Thunderbolts*), the untitled X-Men movie stars Kit Connor (Heartstopper) as Scott Summers, Sadie Sink (Spider-Man: Brand New Day) as Jean Grey, Inde Navarrette (Obsession) as Rogue, Asa Germann (Gen V) as Angel, Maya Boyd (& Juliet) as Storm, and Christopher Abbott (Catch-22) as Professor Charles Xavier.
Samara Weaving (Ready or Not) also stars as Emma Frost, alongside Adam Driver (Star Wars: The Force Awakens), who plays Nathaniel Milbury, an alias of Mister Sinister in the comics. There are also rumours that Marvel Studios will introduce Apocalypse as the next Saga's big bad.
X-Men will be released exclusively in theaters May 5, 2028. Stay tuned for updates as we have them.
