How Long Is The Dragon Ball Super Remake Anime? A New Rumor Leaks The Episode Count

Dragon Ball fans can finally breathe a sigh of relief as the franchise was in a state of flux following the 2024 death of series creator Akira Toriyama.

And while the manga is still on hiatus, the anime will soon return to adapt the Moro arc. Toei dropped the news back in January during Japan’s Dragon Ball Genkidamatsuri 40th anniversary festival, and the hype hasn't slowed down since.

But we've got a bit of a wait ahead of us. Before the new story officially kicks off, Super is getting a Dragon Ball Z Kai-style makeover starting this October.

Don't expect a full-series overhaul, though. Word is this remaster will only cover the first three arcs; that's the Beerus arc, Golden Frieza arc, and the Universe 6 vs Universe 7/Champa tournament.

It's the last arc that's at the center of recent rumors from leading Dragon Ball YouTuber Geekdom 101, who says that the Champa arc will have significant changes.

According to Geekdom, the Beerus arc in the upcoming remake will be cut down from 14 to 6 episodes, while the Golden Frieza arc will be shortened from 13 to 6 /7 episodes. The Universe 6 vs Universe 7 arc will be condensed all the way down to 7 episodes.

That means the Dragon Ball Super anime remake will consist of about 19/20 episodes, with the prevailing thought being that the Moro arc will then quickly follow. It's assumed that the Goku Black and Tournament of Power arcs will not be remade, at least not before the Moro arc begins.

With the fall 2026 anime season starting in October, that means the Dragon Ball Super anime remake should conclude just before the Spring 2027 anime season kicks off in April.

The question on everyone's mind now is whether The Galactic Patrol aka Moro arc will begin in April or if the production team will take one or more cours/seasons off before the highly anticipated Super anime continuation begins.

Speaking back in April at the Dragon Ball Games Battle Hour 2026 event in Los Angeles, Dragon Ball executive producer Akio Iyoku explained the decision to remake the Beerus arc from the Dragon Ball Super anime, stating the goal is to, "express the world of Dragon Ball Super- Toriyama-sensei's creation, with more precision and accuracy. It's only been 10 years since 2015, but visual expression continues to evolve every day, and implementing those techniques was one of the goals of this production.  Specifically, we added extensive new cuts, improved the art quality, re-rendered all cuts, and fully re-constructed the story."

I've always thought these new arcs should've been movies, so considering these are movie length, I'd say they're finally going in the right direction.
